Lung cancer screening is a low-dose CT scan, and fewer than 1 in 5 eligible US adults had one in 2022, per the American Lung Association.

The National Lung Screening Trial followed 53,454 heavy smokers aged 55 to 74. The group screened with low-dose CT had 17.6 lung cancer deaths per 1,000 people, against 20.7 in the group screened with chest X-ray.

The USPSTF recommends a yearly scan for adults 50 to 80 with a 20 pack-year smoking history who smoke now or quit in the last 15 years. Outside that group, ask your doctor whether a scan makes sense for you.

Today 28.1% of US lung cancers are found early, and early is the stage screening is there to catch.

A Himedi checkup can add a chest CT through the Cancer Focus Area. Baseline Checkup $299, Cancer Focus Area +$475. Any finding gets followed up with a doctor.

Glaucoma usually has no early symptoms, and more than half of US cases are undiagnosed. An eye pressure reading is one simple way to spot risk early.

The Himedi Baseline Checkup, $299, includes an intraocular pressure reading. It doesn’t diagnose glaucoma, but a raised reading is a clear reason to see an ophthalmologist. In a trial of people with raised eye pressure, 4.4% of those treated developed glaucoma over 5 years, against 9.5% of those only observed.

Among US adults 65 and older, 52.1% (31.3 million) are in the prediabetes range, the CDC reports. Nothing about it feels different, so a blood test is the only way to see it.

The Himedi Baseline Checkup, $299, includes HbA1c and fasting blood glucose. The ADA range for prediabetes is HbA1c 5.7–6.4% or fasting glucose 100–125 mg/dL, and other countries use different cutoffs. A result in range is one to confirm with your doctor and act on. In the Diabetes Prevention Program, acting on it delayed type 2 diabetes.

Fewer than half of US women 50 and older without an osteoporosis diagnosis report ever having had a bone density scan, so for many the first reading arrives after a fracture.

The Himedi Baseline Checkup, $299, includes a bone mineral density reading with no add-on needed. One reading is a starting point. A second one, taken later, shows how fast your density is changing. A normal result is good news, but it doesn’t rule out a fracture.

Ask your doctor how often a repeat reading makes sense for you.

Whether US blood pressure counts as ‘controlled’ depends on which guideline is used. NHANES data from Aug 2021–Aug 2023 found 47.7% of US adults have hypertension; 59.2% of those are aware and 51.2% are on medication.

Under the newer ACC/AHA threshold of 130/80, only 20.7% are controlled. Under the older JNC 7 threshold of 140/90 — the same survey cycle, the same people — 51.1% are controlled. On that same 140/90 measure, control has slipped from 54.1% in 2013–14 to 51.1% now, still below a decade ago. Lower isn’t automatically better for everyone, which is part of why both thresholds still exist.

A Himedi Baseline Checkup’s cardiovascular exam pairs an ECG with a blood pressure reading, read by a doctor.

A 2024 Lancet Commission review found that 14 modifiable factors are linked to about 45% of dementia cases worldwide — a population estimate, not personal odds. The two largest single factors are hearing loss and high LDL cholesterol at midlife, each about 7%; early-life education, social isolation and untreated vision loss add more.

A 2023 trial, ACHIEVE, gave hearing care to 977 older adults with hearing loss. In a pre-specified higher-risk group, it slowed cognitive decline by 48% over 3 years. Across everyone in the trial, decline was about the same with or without it.

A Himedi Baseline Checkup already includes a hearing test, eye exam and cholesterol panel. Brain Focus (+$880) adds brain MRI and a dementia risk assessment for anyone who wants to go further.

Most projected stomach cancer traces back to one infection. A 2025 modeling study estimates H. pylori accounts for 76% of future gastric cancer cases worldwide; about 44% of adults carry it.

A treatment trial followed 1,676 adults, each with a parent, sibling or child who’d had gastric cancer, for a median of 9.2 years. Cancer developed in 1.2% who were treated versus 2.7% on placebo. Where the infection was actually cleared, the rate was 0.8% versus 2.9% with it still present — treatment cleared the infection in 70.1% of cases.

A Himedi Cancer Focus checkup includes gastroscopy under sedation, the exam where the infection is found. A positive finding is confirmed and treated with your doctor.

A coronary calcium CT reads your arteries directly, instead of estimating risk from cholesterol and family history. MESA followed 6,783 adults with no heart disease for a median of 11.1 years — depending on race and ethnicity, 43.5–57% already had detectable calcium at the first scan.

A zero score isn’t permanent. Among the MESA adults who scored zero, about 11% gained calcium within 2 years and roughly half by year 10; new calcium preceded 55% of later coronary events. The score only reads calcified plaque — about 19% of MESA’s 10-year events still happened at zero.

Heart Focus adds the Coronary Artery Calcification CT to a Himedi Baseline Checkup, plus echo, ApoB + Lp(a), and arteriosclerosis testing.
