**EMPLOYEE SPOTLIGHT!**
In honor of National Occupation Therapy Month, we want to give a shoutout to our Occupation Therapist, Kathryn Kittaka!
Kathryn is a 2013 graduate of Carmel High School. After high school, she attended University of Indianapolis (UIndy) and obtained her Bachelor’s degree in Exercise Science and later her Doctorate in Occupational Therapy in 2020. Kathryn joined the Priority team in November of 2020!

Why did you want to become an OT?

• “Prior to my senior year of high school, I had never even heard of occupational therapy! I discovered this amazing profession during a school project of all places. After shadowing therapists in the field, I knew this was the profession for me! I fell in love with how I can be a part of someone’s journey during their path to recovery. I have a passion for helping individuals fulfill their goals and improve their safety and independence for completion of meaningful occupations.”

What’s your favorite part about working as an OT?

• “One of my favorite parts about being an occupational therapist is the opportunity to meet and connect with so many amazing individuals. I love spending time getting to know my patients, it truly is the best part about my career!”

How has working as an OT challenged you?

• “As an occupational therapist it is important to be creative when solving problems. Each person, diagnosis, and situation vary, which requires me to think quickly on my feet. Since each day in therapy is so different, I am often faced with challenging and difficult situations that require me to think outside the box.”

What goals do you have as you continue your career as an OT?

• “I want to continue enhancing my skills and knowledge of evidenced-based practices, so I ensure I am bettering my patients and self as a therapist. I will continue to strive to assist my patients through the rehabilitation process and help them return to their meaningful occupations. I am also passionate about advocating and educating future students about occupational therapy to bring more awareness about this amazing career path!”

Do These Common Memory-Boosters Really Work?

The mind is as important as the body. These days it seems like success means sleeping less, looking at screens and multi-tasking more. Call Priority Rehab to see if a Speech Therapist can improve cognition for yourself or a loved one.

Steady-State Cardio Vs. High-Intensity Interval Training

Cardio can be the bane of our existence some days. Luckily, there are so many options for how to squeeze in a workout during the day. Steady-state cardio has benefits to better your general health and decrease stress. HIIT routines are great to improve metabolism and recover more quickly. Neither is recommended every day and one style may be better for you over the other. A good trick is to sit quietly and count your heart beat for 1 Minute: if your resting HR is lower than 65, try adding some #HIIT routines; if the number is above 65 stick with steady-state #cardio.
