Inspiration and hope that food can still be beautiful, nutritious, and delicious even with AGS.

A picture of my inspiration - these guys keep me going! Pain, fear, loss, and discouragement are just a few of the emotions we face when living with alpha Gal Syndrome. While over time, I have accepted the life changes that come with AGS, the moments when these feelings greet me again catch me off gaurd.
Discouragement and helplessness are the two emotions that seem to still find me. Gratitude and listing the choices/things that are in my control help me through these seasons.
What emotion impacts you greatest when dealing with AGS? Have you found a tool to help you overcome this emotion?

Our family had the privilege of hunting for duck this fall and ended up making Duck n' Noodles which was a very reminiscent and delicious version of the Beef n' Noodles from my childhood. The recipe is in the comments, and I am sure a duck from your local grocery would be just as good.

Happy fall, friends! I had a craving for a chai latte (with oat milk) earlier this week and swung through the drive-through of a coffee shop while running errands. A few hours later, I had a scary reaction and remembered why due diligence pays off. Here are my two rules for ordering a drink at a coffee shop:
1. Ask if the ingredients are dairy-free EVERY TIME (in the restaurant world, ingredients change). No, you cannot ask too many questions ("What about carrageenan?") because your life depends on it.
2. Watch my drink be made to verify that an alternative milk product is used (mistakes happen - we're all human).

Honey Mustard Chicken Salad
1 Diced Cooked Chicken Breast
1 Diced Granny Smith Apple
1 Diced Shallot
1/2 c. Your Preferred Mayo
3T. Honey
3T. Dijon Mustard
1t. Dried Thyme
Salt and Pepper to Taste
In a large bowl, combine diced chicken, apple, and shallot. In a small bowl, mix honey and mustard until well combined. Add mayo, thyme, salt, and pepper and mix well (everyone has a different preference for how dry or moist a chicken salad should be, so adjust accordingly). Add the mayo mixture to the large bowl and fold until chicken is evenly coated. Enjoy as a sandwich or with crackers/pretzels.

Dressings are one of those things that I feel safer making from scratch. This is my go-to vinaigrette recipe!

Tuna - Terrifying or Tasty???
Have you reacted to something unexpected and non-mammal since your alpha-gal diagnosis?
I have had a number of reactions to canned tuna (never fresh) since my diagnosis and have found that buying high quality brands of canned tuna works best for me.

Shawarma Chicken - our family eats this weekly with jasmine rice, salad, and a homemade vinaigrette.
I like to make the spice mix in bulk for easier meal prep.

Homemade fried chicken tenders are the safest!
Tip: Mix equal parts honey and Dijon mustard for a tangy dipping sauce

Welcome! The Hungry Alpha Gal has gained so many followers over the past few months. You have my greatest sympathy because you are (through personal experience or because you care for someone with this condition) impacted by alpha-Gal Syndrome.
I'm Andrea, and I was diagnosed with AGS in 2019, which makes this my fifth year of managing the condition. While I still have to make food and lifestyle choices around AGS every day, time makes life with AGS easier.
My goal for this page is to inspire you to enjoy "safe" food and share thoughts and tips that help me.
