Feeling puffy after a long weekend does not automatically mean you gained fat.

More sodium, alcohol, less sleep, dehydration, and being out of your normal routine can all make you feel swollen, bloated, and uncomfortable.

The best reset is usually simple: hydrate, eat normally, prioritize protein and whole foods, get some movement, and sleep.

No starving. No extreme detox. No punishment workout.Give your body a day or two of consistency.

Your urine has a lot to say.

Depending on the test, urine can give us valuable clues about nutrient needs, hormone metabolism, cortisol patterns, gut-related imbalances, oxidative stress, and how efficiently your body is producing energy.

That matters when you feel tired, foggy, inflamed, or “off,” but your basic labs are not giving you the full picture.

Advanced testing helps us look beyond isolated symptoms and understand the patterns happening underneath them.

Comment TEST and we’ll send you more information about the urine testing available at Badillo Longevity Lab.

The top three things we treated in June:

1. Sleep
2. Testosterone optimization
3. Menopausal symptoms

Different concerns, but often more connected than people realize.

When hormones, recovery, stress, and sleep are out of balance, the symptoms can show up everywhere. The goal is not just to treat one symptom. It is to look at the full picture and create a plan based on your labs, health history, and goals.

Starting a peptide without checking your bloodwork first is like choosing a treatment before knowing what you are treating.

Fatigue, poor recovery, low libido, stubborn weight, and brain fog can all sound straightforward. But those symptoms can overlap with thyroid dysfunction, insulin resistance, hormone imbalances, inflammation, nutrient deficiencies, and other underlying issues.

That is why we start with labs.

Before prescribing, we want to understand your metabolic health, thyroid function, hormone levels, inflammation, and overall organ function. Certain peptides, especially those that influence growth hormone pathways, can affect glucose regulation, which makes baseline testing and ongoing monitoring even more important.

At Badillo Longevity Lab, the process is simple:
Labs first.
A thorough consultation second.
Then a protocol built around your actual numbers.

Not your symptoms alone.
Not a one-size-fits-all package.
Not guesswork.

Before you start a peptide, ask your provider one question:
“What does my bloodwork say?”

If they cannot explain why the protocol makes sense for your biology, it may be time for a second opinion.

That “high-protein” label does not always mean you are getting a meaningful amount of protein.

One quick way to check? Use the add-a-zero rule.
Take the grams of protein, add a zero, and compare that number to the calories.

For example:
A Greek yogurt with 16 grams of protein and 100 calories:
16 becomes 160. Since 100 is below 160, it is a strong protein choice.

Cottage cheese with 14 grams of protein and 110 calories:
140 versus 110. Another solid option.

Tuna with 20 grams of protein and around 90 calories:
200 versus 90. Excellent protein return for the calories.

Now compare that with foods commonly mistaken for protein sources:

A “protein” granola with 8 grams of protein and 230 calories:
80 versus 230. It may contain protein, but it is not an efficient protein source.

Peanut butter with 7 grams of protein and around 190 calories:
70 versus 190. Peanut butter can absolutely be part of a healthy diet, but it is primarily a source of fat, not protein.

Almonds with 6 grams of protein and approximately 170 calories:
60 versus 170. Nutritious? Yes. The best choice for reaching a higher protein target? Probably not.

This does not mean higher-calorie foods are “bad.” It simply helps you understand what role a food is playing in your diet.
When you are trying to reach a specific protein goal while staying within an appropriate calorie range, those numbers matter. A package can say “high protein,” but the nutrition label tells the full story.

Try this the next time you are walking through the grocery store. Once you start checking the math, you will look at protein claims very differently.

Feeling like your body is permanently on 10% battery? 🔋

Your mitochondria are the tiny “power plants” inside your cells. They turn food and oxygen into the energy your brain, muscles, heart, metabolism, and recovery systems use every day.
And just like your phone, they need the right inputs to work well.

Nutrients like B vitamins, magnesium, iron, copper, CoQ10, zinc, selenium, alpha-lipoic acid, and vitamins C and E all play a role in mitochondrial function, cellular energy production, and protection from oxidative stress.

More targeted tools like NAD+, MOTS-c, and SS-31 may also support mitochondrial health in the right patient, but they are not one-size-fits-all solutions.

And unfortunately, coffee is not a charger.

If low energy, brain fog, poor recovery, or metabolic changes have become your “normal,” it may be time to look deeper at what is happening at the cellular level.

Menopause care has a treatment gap, and women are paying the price.

A recent study published in Mayo Clinic Proceedings found that hormone therapy use among American women has dropped significantly, even as millions continue to experience hot flashes, disrupted sleep, brain fog, mood changes, and accelerated bone loss.

That matters because hormone therapy can be a safe and effective option for many women in perimenopause and menopause when it is prescribed appropriately and based on personal history, symptoms, risk factors, and goals.

But too many women are still told to simply tolerate their symptoms.

Others are offered solutions that may address one symptom without looking at the hormonal changes driving the bigger picture.

The issue is not that hormone therapy is right for every woman.

The issue is that too many women are never given the opportunity to have an informed conversation about it.

That is exactly the gap we are working to close at Badillo Longevity Lab.

If you are experiencing hot flashes, brain fog, poor sleep, changes in mood, weight, energy, or bone health, you deserve more than “this is just part of getting older.”

You deserve a complete evaluation and a personalized conversation about your options.

Your brain runs on glucose. And insulin is the key that unlocks the door.

When that signaling breaks down, it’s not just your A1c that suffers. Research is now linking brain insulin resistance to three of the most serious neurological conditions we see: Alzheimer’s disease, multiple sclerosis, and traumatic brain injury recovery.

Some researchers have started calling Alzheimer’s “Type 3 diabetes” for a reason. When neurons can’t efficiently use glucose, synaptic function degrades, amyloid builds up, and what looks like normal aging may actually be preventable metabolic dysfunction.

This isn’t a future risk. It’s happening upstream, years before symptoms start.

The good news: insulin sensitivity is measurable, and it’s modifiable. Comprehensive metabolic labs give you a picture of what’s happening before it becomes a diagnosis.

If your doctor has only checked your fasting glucose, you’re missing the full story.

Your labs say normal. Your body says otherwise.

Fatigue, brain fog, low drive, weight that won’t budge, these aren’t signs of aging. They’re signs that something was missed.

At Badillo Longevity Lab, we go beyond the standard panel to find what’s actually going on and build a protocol around it.

We combine emergency medicine precision with a full longevity approach, so you get answers, not another shrug.
