Governor Wes Moore has officially proclaimed October 2026 as Nigerian-American Heritage Month in Maryland, recognizing the contributions of the state’s estimated 60,000 Nigerian-Americans.
From healthcare and education to business, technology, public service and the arts, Nigerian-Americans continue to make a powerful impact in Maryland. 👏🏾🇳🇬
The proclamation was also signed by Lt. Governor Aruna Miller and Secretary of State Susan C. Lee.
And Maryland isn’t alone! Washington, DC has also declared October Nigerian-American Heritage Month, with October 1 recognized as Nigeria Day.

ONE DAY. A COURT HALT. A SUPREME COURT REVERSAL. THEN AN EX*****ON THAT DIDN’T GO AS PLANNED. 😳

Na wa o! This story will leave you with questions.

First, a court temporarily stopped Christa Pike’s ex*****on. Later, the U.S. Supreme Court cleared the way for it to proceed.

Then came another shocking turn: after two doses of the lethal injection drug, witnesses said she was still breathing and reportedly snoring about 40 minutes later. The ex*****on was halted, and she was taken to a hospital.
For those unfamiliar with the case, Pike was 18 when she and two others lured 19-year-old Colleen Slemmer to an isolated area in Knoxville, Tennessee, in 1995. Colleen was brutally attacked and killed. Prosecutors said Pike kept a piece of her skull as a trophy. Pike was subsequently convicted and sentenced to death.

That detail alone is heartbreaking. Colleen had a life ahead of her, and her family has carried this grief for decades.

But this latest turn leaves me wondering: is the universe trying to tell us something, or are we witnessing a deeply troubling failure of the ex*****on process?
