I had to get my yearly hugs and hangs in with my dear friend yesterday.

It was great that him and got to finally meet too, and witnessing the reunion with Isaiah Tuck and after not seeing each other since they were all in the arctic was heartwarming. 💗

I’m also so glad and stopped by to complete the chaos of having all of us in one place and employing the children at the event to become a literal paparazzi swarm to get the pictures for us was fun too. 😆

It doesn’t matter what survival comp you have been part of, it doesn’t matter if you haven’t competed together or against each other. These competitions create bonds instantly. There’s just a level of knowing and understanding that can stay unspoken but connects you without effort.

I am so grateful to be part of this community of amazing individuals!

Thank you to Thrive To Survive for having us out!

I took my glasses out today to see how the POV looked during archery practice and I’m pretty stoked on the results!

I’m still getting used to all the ways I can use these glasses in creating content, but overall I am very happy I bought them!

with the nice head shot. One of many. 🏹🎯

Not shown was my epic shot right in the p**p hole. 😂

Near disaster in the Philippines😱

I am so grateful that the Filipino people are so kind and willing to be patient with a traveling spazz like me 😆😆😆

But why didn’t you make shoes?!

I get asked this question most.
The answer is, we did!

I made several shoes/foot protection in my challenge Philippines and my challenge in Africa.

What’s important to know about that is that the materials to make something that will hold up to the elements and repeated walking can be very difficult. Natural materials don’t hold up.

In the Philippines, I had a gash acquired during insertion in the bottom of my foot that didn’t heal till 2 weeks AFTER the challenge ended. There was sharp rock and coral everywhere. No animal hides available. I resorted to just wrapping vines around the sole to protect it a little but that had to be redone every time I got up to walk around.

In Africa there were animal hides available to scavenge but because they were laying out in the sun and untreated/tanned, they were hard to work with, even after soaking and forming the shoes they became incredibly hard again and more painful to wear than just walking barefoot. We were given a small pelt each because it was in the 30-40’s at night but it was small so don’t picture some luxurious fur blanket. It was about 4ft long max. And we needed it to be off the freezing dirt at night, still exposing our bodies to the cold. Kyle and I decided it was too precious to sacrifice even a little for another shoe attempt.

The barefoot element of these challenges makes them so hard. Picture walking over thorns repeatedly all day just to get water or firewood. It was so cold at night we needed massive amounts of firewood and we had to move further and further out each day to acquire enough.

The n🍑 ked element to these challenges is not for allure. It is what makes these challenges extremely difficult for even the most seasoned survivalist.

It was a treat to revisit my Philippines location recently with Dub and have him feel how bad his feet hurt at the end of the day and we had flimsy water shoes on! Struggling to walk effects every decision you make out there.

That fresh out of the challenge feeling. 😄

I was excited to have made it through 21 days of harsh conditions in the bush in Namibia, but also I knew in a few days I would fly back to the states and Dub Paetz would be meeting me at the airport for our first in person encounter.

We really do have a great love story….

Knowing he endured 80 days in the arctic really encouraged me during the freezing cold nights. I would repeat in my head “Dub in the arctic” over and over to remember watching his accomplishments on .

I know it was fated we met(over the phone) before I left for South Africa.

Forever grateful for this life I get to live and the amazing humans that have come into it. 💗💗💗

This is really still just the beginning. So many plans and adventures ahead!

The spinach chronicles.

First I had to step on a thousand thorns and follow the spinach vine tracks through dried grasses and over and under other plants to collect enough to even make a meal of it. Have you ever boiled spinach? It shrinks like crazy!

Then I had to wash the spinach in leech filled animal wallow hole because it was full of sand and animal scat(p**p).

Then I had to pinch each leaf off and put into the pot which took at least an hour to hour and a half because the leaves were mostly tiny and some inedible.

Then I had to build a fire, boil the spinach, and let it cool enough to be able to eat.

After hours of prep it was probably 4 mouthfuls for each of us and the broth to share.

I only did this process 4 times total in the 21 days. It was exhausting. Considering input to output ratios it wasn’t sustainable.

I just thought maybe it would be interesting to know how incredibly hard I worked for those 100 calories over 21 days.

*last pic is my first meal after I got out.

100 calories in 21 days, surviving freezing nights that left me with toasted skin syndrome(google it), and physical exhaustion and pain that’s not describable…

I tested my mental fortitude to the max on this one!

When I got home I received the greatest gift in an amazing teacher(Dub) and got to work on my skill sets.

Between both challenges, my training, and the Wild Together adventures, I can now say I am impenetrable.

I encourage everyone to push yourself beyond your perceived limitations. You can in fact breakthrough them. And when you do, you walk through the world differently and instead of hiding from the hard, you voluntarily and joyfully seek it.
