**********Repost from Joe Stanfill*****

On May 22nd, 1931 the world received a baby boy, Robert Joseph Stanfill.
This baby grew into a young man that created a life story that even the best minds and writers in Hollywood could only dream of coming up with. Robbing banks, stealing cars, breaking into homes. You name it, Everything a box office hit would need.

Dad was a scrapper from day one. And often an outcast, always the black sheep. His life was not easy. From an outrageously abusive Father and his earliest recollection of being chased by a drunk dad with a heavy leather belt... to being the punching bag and stepping between his mom and an irate drunken father. Ready to protect his little brother and sister whom he adored! Dad made countless bad decisions as a young boy, and into adulthood, having been in and out of more orphanages, reform schools, county, and city jails than we can count.

Having brushed deaths doorstep on more than one occasion, dad knew in later years as he would recount his story, just how incredible the divine intervention was. He once recalled that "to keep track of him it took God dedicating legions of guardian Angel's to look after him". And knowing his life story as I do, it was no joke. Lol

Dad was an amazing athlete. A professional boxer, he also held the title of Coloado Golden Gloves Champion and defeated the state champions of Nevada, New Mexico, and Utah. He played outfield for the St. Loius Cardinals baseball farm team in Kansas City as well.

Dad loved to run. He ran Bloomsday for many years, and I think from all his days of being cooped up in prisons of every shape and size between Washington and Kansas, it was simply freedom for him to run.

Many in our community of College Place will remember dad coaching the "Village" basketball team for the Sonnenberg series... and the countless boxes of oranges peeled for his players to munch on through out each game. He nearly single handedly kept that series going for 15 years. He was a pioneer in promoting athletics in the Adventist Church system we see today. He created a passionate, quality athletic program, throughout the community, and businesses from the area sponsored nearly every aspect of the events.

Dad was in countless ways a very simple man. Yet astoundingly complex with the astonishing, and freightening abuse he suffered as a child at the hands of his own dad and others. There is, and was a side of him no one, and I mean no one, ever knew about.

Dad was a quiet man. Extremely slow to anger and trusting to a fault. Kind to total strangers, and helped more people out of jams than can be counted... Although not a rich man, he gave freely, willingly. Always believing in the goodness of the human race. Never regretting. He treated us two boys like royalty, his grandkids as kings and queens. He provided unending blessings and opportunities to all of us, and, He provided a home to us, and many others, like he always dreamed of, but never had himself, until late in life.

Dad was a trusted businessman for nearly 60 years as a barber in College Place. Just a couple weeks ago I was attending church where I knew basically no one.
When I introduced myself, I found 4 or 5 of the 15 in the room had gotten haircuts from dad as boys or while in college... small world.

Dad would be proud to know his oldest grand daughter is carrying on his legacy at the beauty salon.

Life is a lot emptier now for me with both parents gone. I know I'm not alone. Many will fill my grieving shoes after I vacate them, and many have gone before me.

But this is my time.
Here, and now.

I will miss you dad, as I have for a very long time. Just as I have grieved and missed mom.
I hope I made you truly proud in some way.

Rest now dad. Be at peace. No regrets.

I hope and pray to see you on resurrection day!

Love you more than I can express!

Your Jodie boy
