I charge a flat rate of $350 for a Curly Cut & Style. My customers typically visit me every 6 months. This means they spend about $1.94 a day or $700 a year for hair they LOVE! If someone told you, you could have the hair of your dreams for $1.94 a day would you sign up? Perspective is everything.

I am quite fed up seeing customers shaming hairstylist online for charging enough to make a living wage, after paying for the rising cost of doing business. Not to mention it takes longer to service clients then it ever has in history but I will get into that in another post. At the end of the day there are still many price points and many great stylist at all of those price points. So no matter what someone pays for their hair remember that hairstylist are humans just trying to shoot their shot at providing an amazing life not only for themselves but for the people who depend on them as well. No matter what you do, work hard k ow your worth and create a beautiful life for yourself. The possibilities are endless 💰 💛😎

Creating dimension on curly hair using Blayage has and is one of the greatest artistic joys of my life. Exploring the vast landscape that is a head of curly hair. Learning how curls and light interact with each other and can be shifted and highlighted by using hair color is incredible to experience . We are really creating a bit of an optical illusion. It’s really rather incredible when you think about it. What a joy 💛

Also it’s okay to “just do hair”. I am accepting that more and more. If you’re feeling stuck making content focus on your clients. Spending time with clients away from social media all while documenting a bit of your successes without the pressure to produce content, always produces some of my most proud work. I am happiest when I am a hairstylist, with a dope ass clients & my camera 😎 I like it when my clients make me laugh, feel comfortable dancing & truly appreciate what I have to share. 💛

Let’s take a moment for type 4 curls(coily hair) . This texture is often over looked, mistreated and misunderstood. Traditional methods of caring for this texture cause it to present itself in a completely different manor than depicted here. It often isn’t documented in the way you see it here on social media, because not only does it require patience but a commitment from its care takers, both client and stylist. With gentle care and commitment, over time this becomes a triumph for its wearer. A representation of confidence, self love and commitment to one’s natural occurring beauty. Here are three things to do for at least a year if you want your curls to flourish.

1️⃣Zero Lather Cleanser - Zero lather cleansers unlike cowash are designed to thoroughly clean your scalp hair without drying your curls out.
2️⃣Stop using products heavy in or primarily made of oils and butter. If you can feel the oil or butter on your hands after dry the product is too heavy and will cause your curls to become hydrophobic over time. Causing dryness.
3️⃣Discontinue protective styles like braids. Especially for extended periods of time. Avoid blowouts in preparation for braids. Find alternative methods if you must.

💡Find a curl specialist who also specializes in varying for your specifics texture but looking through photos on their website or instagram.

Curly hairdressing is dying💀 & it makes me want to cry. We worked so hard to help those with waves, curls & coils a top their heads to love themselves and their hair. It’s sad after almost 20 years to see where we are now. To see our celebration of the beauty of imperfection & acceptance flipped to commercialized images of brush curls, finger coils, AI photo edits & camera tricks. Gotta feed the monster that is the algorithm I guess….All for what a couple minutes of fame. All while clients are still left lost and under served by “celebrity curl stylist” who are more concerned about the images they take than clients they serve. I meet clients everyday who have been to “all the pros” & still don’t have a basic knowledge of how to care for their curls at home in a way that suitable for everyday life. Not to mention the stylist who doesn’t have a basic knowledge of cutting or coloring hair let alone curly hair…….but proudly touts the name “curl specialist” proudly in their profiles. I hope the right people will see this & start to respect and celebrate those who do this for the better good of those they serve not just the likes, awards & brand deals. All of these things are great and I have befitted from. I love photography and editorial images but there has got to be some balance here. We tried the newly formulated AG Hair Care Curl Fresh Curl Definer today and we liked the results. Light weight control that fired fast leaving her curls feeling naturally hydrated. We let her dry under the hooded dryer and diffused and blew her roots a bit. Oh & picked out with a wide tooth comb.
