This guest was ready for a fresh new look and to finally say goodbye to some leftover blonde.

We created a beautiful mushroom brown using a partial lowlight service for a richer, softer, more natural look with plenty of dimension. Just because it’s spring and summer doesn’t mean you have to go lighter, sometimes deeper tones create the most stunning results!

The haircut was completely customized to her natural texture and styling preferences. I shaped her curls to enhance body, movement, and definition when worn naturally, while also refining the cut with her hair straightened to ensure it falls beautifully smooth when styled straight.

The goal wasn’t just a new color or haircut, it was creating a look that works for her no matter how she chooses to wear it. Here are the pics to prove it!

☀️ SUMMER HAIR WARNING FOR BLONDES & HIGHLIGHTED HAIR ☀️

Swimming season is here, and while pool days and beach trips are some of the best summer memories, they can be rough on blonde hair…especially for kids, teens, and anyone with highlights, balayage, or lightened hair.

💚 Why does blonde hair turn green?
It’s actually not the chlorine itself! The biggest culprit is metals like copper in pool water. Lightened hair is more porous, making it easier for those minerals to attach to the hair and leave behind a green tint.

🌊 Salt water can be just as damaging.
While it won’t usually turn hair green, salt water can pull moisture from the hair, leaving it feeling dry, tangled, brittle, and faded.

(Do not get in a pool after a fresh set of highlights that is a big no-no you have more chance for it to turn green as the hair is more porous!)

✨ How to PREVENT damage:

✔️ Wet hair with clean water BEFORE swimming
Hair acts like a sponge. If it’s already full of fresh water, it absorbs less pool or ocean water.

✔️ Apply a leave-in conditioner or lightweight hair oil before swimming
This helps create a protective barrier and adds moisture.

✔️ Braid long hair
Braids help reduce tangling and breakage while swimming.

✔️ Rinse & wash immediately after swimming
The sooner you rinse out chlorine, minerals, and salt, the better.

✔️ Use a swimmer’s shampoo or clarifying shampoo occasionally
This helps remove buildup from chlorine, minerals, sunscreen, and hard water.

(Even when doing these steps you still have a possibility that your may hair will turn green/be dry and brittle)

🚨 If your hair turns green:
Don’t panic and PLEASE don’t immediately reach for box color/toners.

A professional Malibu C treatment can often remove the mineral buildup and restore your blonde without compromising the integrity of your hair.

Remember, blondes and highlighted hair require a little extra TLC during the summer months. A few simple preventative steps can keep your hair bright, healthy, and beautiful all season long!

I’m not a perfect woman. I make mistakes, overthink things, and fall short daily… but one thing I’ll never be ashamed of is how good Jesus is and how far He’s brought me as a Hair Artist and woman of God.

I am humbled that I have the opportunity to pray over my clients and their hearts, their confidence, their struggles, their families, and yes… even their hair while I’m doing it. This career has always been about more than just hair, it’s about hearts we touch along the way.

“Sometimes a little brightness is all you need”

We refreshed her color by lifting her just a few levels brighter while still keeping everything soft, blended, and low maintenance. Balayage is perfect for my girls who don’t want to live in the salon but still want dimension and brightness added to their hair.

One of the best things about balayage is how customizable it is. Whether you just want to brighten up your natural color, add dimension to flat-looking hair, or enhance your existing color service, it gives that sun-kissed lived-in look without harsh grow out lines.

Most balayage clients only come in 2-3 times a year for lightening services, with the occasional toner refresh in between since toners are temporary and help keep the color looking fresh and pretty.

Sometimes life happens and when home color overlaps previous blonde work, it can create bands or darker areas that need a little extra love to blend back seamlessly.

For this corrective color session….we did a full highlight and strategically targeted the darker root areas to soften and brighten everything back up, while the hair in between we did the lightest root color to help blend the grays that didn’t get foiled. This makes for a beautiful grow out that’s long lasting. Corrective color is never about perfection in one appointment it’s about patience, technique, and protecting the hair every step of the way.

To help maintain the health of her hair during the process, we used the K18 pre-treatment before lightening, followed by the K18 repair mask, heat bounce spray, and bonding oil for aftercare and added protection. Healthy blonde always comes first in my chair.

The end result? A softer, brighter, more blended blonde that looks natural and refreshed again.

Already have an extension girl but your color, haircut, or extensions just aren’t blending naturally? Don’t feel awkward coming to see me for a blend correction! Sometimes the install itself is great, but the haircut needs reshaping or the extensions need custom color blending to make everything flow together seamlessly and actually look natural. A proper extension blend can completely change the overall look and make it feel like YOUR hair instead of “extensions.”

FOURTH session in removing years of black box dye… and let me tell y’all black box color does NOT leave quietly.

This is exactly why color corrections are a PROCESS and not a one-and-done appointment. When black box dye has been layered on the hair for years, it can take multiple sessions of careful highlighting, toning, treatments, and patience to safely break through all that buildup without destroying the integrity of the hair.

Could we rush it? Sure.
Do we want your hair snapping off in the shower? Absolutely not!!

Healthy hair ALWAYS comes first in my chair.

We still aren’t at the final goal yet, but compared to where we started, this hair has come SUCH a long way and we are keeping it healthy through every step of the process.

Little educational moment:
Box dye is basically the relationship red flag of the hair world. It may seem “cheap and easy” at first, but later it usually costs more time, more money, and more appointments to fix professionally.

Moral of the story:
Your Pinterest blonde and your $7 Walmart box dye are not on the same team!!
