last week my daughter came at me with attitude and i matched it back before i even decided to. that’s just how fast it happens.

a stranger at walmart did the opposite today and i haven’t stopped thinking about it since.

i’m not trying to be a pushover. i’m just realizing deescalating might not be a muscle i ever built.

tell me i’m not the only one who reacts before she decides to.

i’ll go first: choosing violence. today was a shared closet full of items nobody would claim. last weekend it was the myriad of cups upstairs where they don’t belong. OUT WITH THE TRASH.

let’s see ‘em 👇🏼

default parent of three. for years i ran every recurring transition in this house whether i wanted to or not.

the shift wasn’t him noticing on his own. it was me saying it out loud: you own cub scouts, both boys, start to finish.

so i mapped every recurring transition in our house to see how many actually said my name. not who helps with it. who owns it.

send this to the partner who thinks “just ask me” counts as owning it.

first solo in 2 weeks and I didn’t have time to make it my whole personality for 12 weeks.

so…here’s what I’m doing instead:

1. following a hybrid training program: Hyrox is an endurance AND strength sport. learning to compete both sports is key.

2. staying hydrated: sounds silly, makes a huge difference in fatigue and recovery.

3. active recoveries: learning to run and lift through fatigue is critical in not hitting a wall. i jog all running recoveries and time between sets to train my heart for active recovery.

4. not skipping a workout: I have 3 kids, 8 pickup and drop offs and countless transitions during the day. sometimes, that means my workout is broken into 3-4 sections but done is done.

5. progressive overload/more reps: every workout week to week is done with heavier weights or more reps. both count, both train just as hard.

6. 30g of protein post workout: as a female, and one in training, protein is a must. 30-40g within an hour is ideal.

7. hype squad: if you’ve Hyrox’d…the koolaid is strong. my kids are also training for their first and there is no better motivator than your kids watching.

8. station research: there are ENDLESS resources to watch/read/learn to make sure you’re maxxing each station without maxing out.

9. simulation practice: every 4 weeks I’ve done a simulation workout to establish growth and mimic the race day strain. you do not want to be surprised!

10. not chasing a PR: counterintuitive, but this is my first solo race and instead of setting a time goal, I’m aiming to finish not gassed. that’s the pr.

save this for you next prep season! and send to your fitness bestie 🫶🏼
