Natural Labor Induction 12/10/2023

At 18 years old, I was fear mongered into induction when I was 42 weeks pregnant with Thanksgiving right around the corner. I had initially wanted an all natural birth and my obgyn knew that, but she told me that I risk still birth if I continued with my pregnancy or my baby would be too big for me to birth vaginally. Little did I know that over 30% of first time moms that induce with pitocin end up needing an emergency c-section, which is exactly what happened to me. My obgyn botched my induction by not dilating my cervix before beginning pitocin even though pitocin often has no effect on cervical dilation and the contractions it induces are much stronger than in natural labor. I went 13 hours without dilating, my baby had a bowel movement in the womb, her heart rate began rapidly declining and at this point I was informed that my obgyn had actually left the hospital. They began prepping me for a c-section and ignorantly waited for my obgyn to get back, but ultimately brought me back to do the surgery without her and she barely made it in time. Because they waited so long, my daughters heart rate was only 12BPM. She was born unresponsive for 14 minutes, as soon as they got a response out of her they wheeled her to NICU without me seeing or even hearing her once. I didn’t get to hold her for over 30 hours. When I first saw her doctor in the hospital, he told me that he didn’t think she was going to make it for a minute. Induction nearly killed my baby.
•I want to add some education to the statements she made about going overdue and it’s connection to stillbirth: the stillbirth rate at 41 weeks is 0.006%, the stillbirth rate at 42 weeks is 0.1%. Your baby’s chances of survival at 41 weeks is 99.94% and at 42 weeks is 99.9%. This is a blatant fear mongering tactic. Also, my baby was born 8Ibs5oz and she was my smallest baby. The whole “your baby is too big to birth vaginally” is just another fear tactic, and falling for these fear tactics is my biggest regret in life.

After this, I vowed to never be induced using pitocin again and I stayed true to that. Unfortunately, I went to 43 weeks pregnant with my second baby while planning a VBAC with a midwife at a birth center. I was 0% dilated and 0% effaced, she couldn’t even strip my membranes. She dropped me from her care for going “too overdue”. Unfortunately there are many states that put laws in place preventing care and insurance providers from allowing women to go “too overdue”. My options were 1) have an unassisted home birth after a c-section 2) wait to go into labor without any further prenatal care and see if I can make it to the hospital or 3) get induced 4) have a repeat c-section. Options 1-3 sounded too risky for me, so I unfortunately opted for a repeat c-section.
•I want to add some education about how gestational dates are calculated: In 1744, a professor from the Netherlands named Hermann Boerhaave explained how to calculate an estimated due date. Based on the records of 100 pregnant women, Boerhaave figured out the estimated due date by adding 7 days to the last period, and then adding nine months. This method is extremely outdated and inaccurate for countless reasons.

After this, I thoroughly educated myself on how to have a home birth and naturally induce labor. I found an amazing midwife who was completely on board and equally as dedicated to helping me achieve my dream birth, I will always be so thankful for this amazing women. She taught me more ways to naturally induce my labor. By 41.5 weeks, I had naturally dilated (for the first time EVER) to 2cm and was fully effaced. I asked her to strip my membranes and immediately went into early labor. Over the next couple days, I labored at home and then met up with my midwife to get a foley bulb. I was already 3-4cm dilated! 14 hours later, my son was born as a home birth after 2 c-sections weight 8Ibs12oz.

There are many reasons as to why a women may need or want to induce her labor. I have shared countless times about the dangers of pitocin, so I figured I’d also share how to prevent the use of pitocin through natural induction methods. I put all of my information in this PowerPoint.

Natural Labor Induction Natural Labor Induction Did you know that by 1974, it was an established medical fact that the failure rate of pitocin was 40 to 50 percent? During the 1980s, Dr. Roberto Caldreyo-Barcia, former president of the International Federation of Obstetricians and Gynecologists and a renowned researcher...

I have a lot of women asking me what I did to prepare my husband for helping me through labor & delivery at home during my vaginal birth after 2 c-sections. I have actually been preparing for this for years! I made multiple PowerPoints that have tons of different natural remedies/techniques to help with multiple different things that can happen during labor. I printed all of these PowerPoints and put them in a binder and separated each different section using dividers to keep it organized. Essentially, this binder was a reference guide to any natural remedy/technique for labor that my husband needed to know. This way he didn’t have to remember (and risk forgetting) or continuously ask me what to do.
In hopes of helping more mothers accomplish natural births, I’ve decided to share all of these PowerPoints for free within this post. 🤰🏼✨ Please feel free to print them, make a binder, share with friends, etc.. ❤️

I have a planned home birth coming up soon (baby boy is due January 6th)! So, because of this, I have decided to make my own birth affirmation cards. I contemplated selling them, but I decided that providing tools to help other women feel confident in having a home birth is a bigger priority to me than money; so I am uploading them all in this PowerPoint link. I will be uploading a lot more home birth tools that I have created soon, so stay tuned! Feel free to print, use and share them!

Printing tips:
Click file, then click print & do 2 pages per sheet to have cards like mine in the picture. Or to have smaller cards print more pages per sheet. They are best if printed on card stock.

I made the most beautiful and nutrient packed 100% organic fire cider tonic yesterday! This will be available for sale (in the most adorable glass bottles) in about 6 weeks, after it is done fermenting. When it is done fermenting, I will add raw/unfiltered local honey to it which will help tremendously with allergies (especially if you are local to me in North Texas) and it will sweeten up the taste of the cider.

What is fire cider?
Fire Cider is a natural antibiotic, anti-viral, anti-fungal, anti-parasitic, anti-candida, anti-carcinogenic and immune system booster. It can be used to prevent and treat colds, to improve blood circulation, improve heart health, ease pain, treat infection, kill internal parasites and so much more! It is loaded with anti-inflammatory properties, which now believe that chronic inflammation plays a major role in almost every chronic, Western disease; this includes heart disease (the number one cause of death in the world), cancer, metabolic syndrome and many neurodegenerative disorders.

What is in it and how does it work? Evidence based ingredients.

Garlic- Contains vitamin c, vitamin b, manganese, selenium, iron and, phosphorus, calcium, thiamin and potassium! It stimulates the production of white blood cells in your body, which in turn attacks and fights against invaders like harmful bacteria and viruses. The sulfur compounds in garlic also increases blood flow and overall circulation. It improves cholesterol levels, which may lower the risk of heart disease (which is the number one cause of death in America). Allicin is one of the key immune-stimulating nutrients in garlic, which is activated after the garlic is cut or crushed. It is great for immune health. It has components that may prevent and treat neurodegenerative diseases and cancer. It is a natural anti-inflammatory, antioxidant and natural antibiotic.

Onion- A great source of vitamin c, vitamin b6, potassium and folate. Similar to garlic, onion contains immune boosting allicin and also helps to increase circulation – to sweat that infection out! A unique secret-weapon that lies within onion is quercetin. Quercetin is a plant pigment, often used for allergy symptom relief as it is believed to reduce histamine response and inflammation. Quercetin is a great treatment for colds, has antioxidant and therapeutic properties, such as the ability to reduce viral replication and lung inflammation. It is also great for heart health, immune function, improving bone density and is loaded with anti-cancer compounds.

Horseradish root- Calcium, magnesium, potassium, folate, vitamin c and zinc. This pungent root vegetable uses its heat (similar to hot peppers) to increase your blood flow, body temperature, and digestion to keep toxins moving through and out of your body through increased sweat and urination. It also has antibacterial (fights infections) properties to fight sinus infections, and stimulates your lungs to assist with coughing and keeping your chest loose and “productive”. It is also loaded with anti-cancer, antiviral, antioxidant components and and prevents neurodegenerative diseases.

Please note: It is recommended to avoid the consumption of horseradish if you are pregnant or breastfeeding. It could be omitted from this recipe as needed, but will take 4-6 weeks for to make a batch without it. (Depending on demand, I may keep some in stock soon.)

Turmeric- Loaded with vitamin c, flavonoids, calcium, fiber, iron, niacin, potassium, zinc and tons of other nutrients. It contains the chemical curcumin, a natural anti-inflammatory compound. Curcumin is such a strong anti-inflammatory that it matches or beats the effectiveness of many pharmaceutical drugs without having any of the side effects. It also has anti-cancer components (and potentially even treats it), supports healthy brain function and treats neurological disorders such as Alzheimer’s, and prevents heart disease (and even reverses the heart disease process). It’s even been said to slow down aging and is used in anti-aging supplements!
