HAIR POROSITY is a measurement of ones hair ability to absorb and hold moisture.⠀
⠀
This is measured/determined by the structure of ones hair cuticle, the outer layer of our hair ✨⠀
⠀
This is veryyyy important to textured, curly and kinky haired people. Without knowing this, one may not know the necessary guidelines and steps to take when creating the perfect hair care regimen. ⠀
⠀
Do you know your hair porosity? ⠀
If not, look no further! There’s an easy way to figure out where you hair strands stand and this will help you in the many days to come 💕

✨ HAIR POROSITY TEST ✨⠀⠀
⠀⠀
A great way to know your hairs porosity is by taking a hair porosity test. This test is pretty simple and will help you figure out what your hair needs to thrive! ⠀⠀
⠀⠀
How to take a hair porosity test:⠀⠀
• Wash your hair. Make sure it’s clean and rid of any type of product buildup. ⠀⠀

• Do NOT condition your hair. If it’s wash day, do this test before conditioning. ⠀⠀

• Air dry your hair or take a few strands and leave them to dry on a smooth counter surface.
⠀⠀
• Put the few strands (preferably from different parts of your head) of your cleaned hair into a clean clear cup or bowl of water. ⠀⠀
• Place strands in water. Let it be/sit for at least 5 minutes. ⠀⠀
⠀⠀

Results: ⠀⠀
1. If your hair floats, you have low porosity hair. ⠀⠀
2. If your hair stays in the middle of the glass or bowl of water, you have medium or normal porosity hair. ⠀⠀
3. If your hair sinks all the way to the bottom, you have high porosity hair. ⠀⠀
⠀⠀

Protective Styling is a great way to protect our natural hair! It is simply a hair style that encourages growth retention and protects the ends of our tresses by helping to decrease tangles, shedding and breakage, with less daily maintenance. ⠀

These styles should barely involve constant manipulation, tension or daily upkeep. ⠀
⠀
Braids, Twists and Bantu Knots are all protective styles that help our tresses flourish 🌺 ⠀

A few Protective Style tips to consider: ⠀
• Not all hairstyles are Protective styles. Try to avoid hairstyles that are too SMALL, too TIGHT and too LONG. ⠀
• Always make sure your hair is moisturized prior to the styling, and refreshed as needed. ⠀
• Start with a clean scalp and deep conditioned tresses ⠀
• Keep it Simple⠀
• Try to use a conditioning mist or spray to keep your hair hydrated, while styled. ⠀
• Choose a style that requires low maintenance and manipulation. ⠀
