Myth: Most people think being a makeup artist is about being able to do cool eyeshadow and lips.

But a skilled makeup artist must be able to highlight the natural beauty of a face. As well as being able to correct blemishes, while still looking natural.

It is easy to paint over a blank canvas. But when the canvas is skin toned the artist has to be able to match the 12 undertones of brown. They also need to be able to match skin texture.

So when picking a makeup artist don’t get distracted by pretty eyeshadow. Look at the skin.

Me circa 2004. 18 years ago. Before all the white hair. Before the fine lines. Back when I didn’t like myself. Back when I didn’t know my identity through Christ. Still learning who I am. But I am glad I am not this girl anymore.

Life has been really hard. I have used the word “struggling” way too often these past couple of months. I was consciously deciding not to hope. Hoping was too hard and disappointing.

I spent this weekend with a group of moms and their daughters. It was supposed to just be a vacation. But we got into the word of God. There was powerful prayer.

I have been encouraged. I have been reminded I am not alone. I have an army of women warriors. I have a God that goes before me. A God that loves me when I screw up. My God helps me. My God is going to take care of me.

I don’t expect life to be easier when I get home. But I do know how to fight this battle. Armored up (Eph 6). Division can not have me.

Friday morning vibes

Some days just need a little more coffee, am I right?

I got sick of dying my white hair brown every other week. I thought it would make me look old if I let it grow out. But I finally gave in.

How many times do we not try something because of fear? I was fearful of looking older. But instead I get compliments on my hair. We make up stories in our head. Then make decisions based off of a made up story.

We let fear lie to us and then trust it. But what if we start imagining the good things that could happen??

Why is my work face so intense! Like I really love my work. See 😁.

I often get asked what makeup I carry in my makeup kit. My favorite foundation is I love that it makes skin look like skin. It is a pro line so many consumers haven’t heard of it.
