🚨 Tattoo Studios Are Everywhere — But How Did We Get Here?

20 years ago, tattoo shops were fewer and far between. Today, the U.S. alone has 28,000+ studios (IBISWorld / ByteScraper, 2023–2025). What was once niche is now part of everyday culture.

That growth is exciting — more artists building careers, more clients finding the right shop, and a $11B global industry shaping the way tattoos are seen. But with growth also comes new pressures:
👉 Clients expect professionalism, care, and consistency.
👉 Artists need to stand out and protect their reputation in a crowded market.

At the end of the day, it’s not just about more studios — it’s about raising the standard of experience for everyone.

Do you think this growth has made the client experience better… or harder to trust? Drop your thoughts below ⬇️

Michigan just became the first state to ban numbing sprays and creams — including Bactine — from being used during tattooing.

🔎 According to the Michigan Department of Health & Human Services (Rule 9, effective Sept 11, 2025):

Artists cannot tattoo skin that has been treated with topical anesthetics or numbing sprays.

The only exception is if the product and dosage are prescribed by a licensed physician.

Documentation of the prescription must be included in the client’s file.

💬 In the community, reactions are mixed.

Some artists point out that numbing products can change how skin stretches and how ink heals.

Collectors say they’re surprised by the ban and are questioning what it means for comfort during longer sessions.

On forums and social media, many are calling for clarity, not confusion.

We’re not here to take sides — but awareness matters. Rules like these will shape how artists work, how collectors experience their tattoos, and how the industry builds trust moving forward.
