For years, I’ve poured my energy into many projects, ideas, and causes that mattered and some that really didn’t — but CALYX is the first thing that feels entirely me.

This summer I planted coral. I got my hands in the ocean, contributing to something bigger, something lasting. Launching CALYX feels the same. It’s about planting roots, building from the ground up, and letting something grow that I can stand behind with my whole self.

CALYX Roots is more than just a hair brand. It’s the first time I’ve stopped waiting, stopped second-guessing, and truly dove in.... & this is just the beginning🪸

Why I Started CALYX Roots🌊🪸💆🏻‍♀️

The ocean has always been my grounding force—a source of calm, mystery, and inspiration. There’s something about its vastness that pulls me into the present and quiets all the outside noise 🔊💙

Over the years, my ocean fascination evolved into a deep respect for the underwater world. But everything changed after a single dive in the Florida Keys 🐠. I came across a plastic grocery bag wrapped tightly around a piece of coral—suffocating it. In that moment, the effects of human impact on the ocean weren’t abstract or far away, not something you read in the news or see on tv — they were tangible and painfully, heart wrenchingly real 💔🌎

At the same time, I was dealing with a more surface-level frustration: my scalp. Like many, I relied on dry shampoo, but every formula left my scalp irritated or off-balance 😣. With a background in cosmetics and e-commerce, I started experimenting with natural ingredients—determined to create a dry shampoo that actually supported scalp health, without the waste or compromise 🌿✨

That’s how CALYX Roots was born.

The name comes from the calyx: the protective structure coral polyps create to root themselves to the reef 🪸. It represents strength, sensitivity, and the delicate balance we must protect.
