In honor of Mental Health Awareness Month, I’m sharing one small nutrition shift I recommend all the time > prioritize protein. 💪🏼
Protein isn’t only about building strength and muscle. It also plays a big role in your mood, energy, focus, and cravings. 👀
Here’s why…when you eat protein, your body breaks it down into amino acids, and some of those amino acids help your brain produce chemicals like serotonin and dopamine, which are tied to mood, motivation, and focus. 🧘♀️
Here are 3 simple ways to make eating more protein easier:
1. Give Your Carbs a Protein Boost 💃
Small swaps add up. Use quinoa instead of rice, lentil or chickpea pasta instead of regular pasta, almond flour crackers instead of regular pita chips, or add quinoa, lentils, or chickpeas into soups.
2. Turn Your Sips into Protein Boosts 😋
Your drinks can help you hit your protein goals. Choose higher-protein milk options instead of low-protein nut milks or swap your afternoon tea for bone broth when you want something warm and savory.
3. Protein Stack What You Already Eat 😍
Add edamame or black beans to salads, hemp/chia/flax seeds to yogurt or oats, Greek yogurt to smoothies, or chickpeas to soup.
