Great news to share today from Mary Kay!

Meet Dr. Minna Roh-Johnson, a researcher from the The University of Utah, she is one of the 2019 Mary Kay Foundation Cancer Research Grant recipients. She and her team are studying how cancer cells “talk” with surrounding cells in the tumor to help improve the lives of patients living with cancer. She is inspired by scientists like Rosalind Franklin and her commitment to science, despite facing adversity as one of the few woman doing research at the time.

According to the American Cancer Society, cancer will affect 1 in 3 women in their lifetime. Thanks to early detection and innovative treatment methods their story doesn’t have to end there. The Mary Kay Foundation is proud to support cancer researchers in the US and globally whose lab findings translate into real-world treatments, saving millions of lives annually.

Much sense that we are all grieving.

I am sure most of you are familiar with this chart. In fact you may have lived this chart dozens if not hundreds of times depending on the type of work you do.

I consider myself a very tough emotion person and I am proud of how fast I can move through this chart on a daily basis. I am in the people business, people can disappoint and human relationships are often messy.

BUT even the best of us were not emotionally prepared for THIS💥

In March EVERYONE entered this circle. I did not personally realize I was in the grief cycle until Day 11 of quarantine. I couldn't move. I had no emotion. I was exhausted but had not worked a tenth of what I normally do. Once I realized it, gave it a name-- DEPRESSION, then I was able to logically bypass the emotion and do what I do best 'Milk the Cows'. You discipline yourself whether you are in the mood or not.

Give yourself some grace🥰🙏, acknowledge where you are on this chart, realize you will bounce back and forth around the circle. Take a deep cleansing breath🧘‍♀️ and then TAKE BACK CHARGE of your NEW NORMAL schedule and life so you can get back out in the arena and get your butt kicked one more time .. Passing along good news.

Six months ago, Mary Kay announced its partnership with The Nature Conservancy on the Gulf of Mexico resilience and fisheries program. We’re working together to achieve a long lasting, global impact for healthier oceans. Today, we have a progress update.

We’ve laid the groundwork to improve aquatic ecosystems by:
• Ensuring longevity and scalability of the program by establishing the right resources
• Leveraging public funds to complete construction of one oyster reef with another on the way this spring
• Testing the optimal conservation method to support the restoration and conservation of key habitats in the area

There’s much more restoration to be done. We’re just getting started!
