What if the problem was never that your body looked different… but that nobody was looking deep enough?

For women living with lipedema, pain, tenderness, and unexplained bruising can be part of everyday life—even when conventional vascular testing looks normal.

Emerging ultrasound research by Dr. Deise Vargas and colleagues is helping reveal structural changes beneath the skin, including altered connective tissue and painful nodules.

In one published case report, researchers found evidence of tiny blood-vessel abnormalities, localized bleeding, and fat-tissue injury within a painful nodule.

This research is still developing, but it offers another important piece of the lipedema puzzle.

As someone living with Stage 3 lipedema and recovering from surgery, I know how meaningful it is when science begins explaining what we've experienced for years.

11 weeks later, walking feels different

Walking with ease. Legs that don’t ache or feel so heavy. These everyday changes mean so much to me. 💚 My mobility was deteriorating due to extensive nodules and fibrosis in my tissues and joints. I feel such a difference & procedure has helped me so much!

Today marks 11 weeks since my 360° leg surgery for stage 3 lipedema. Fifteen liters removed on July 23, and now I’m feeling the difference in how I move and live.

My mobility is better. My flexibility keeps improving. The tissue hardness has almost resolved.

Thank You, Lord. For this progress, for the care I’ve received, and for the joy of moving more freely. 🙏

Sometimes it’s not just one thing.

Lipedema can overlap with hypermobility/connective tissue issues and mast-cell-related symptoms. That does not mean everyone with one condition has the others, and researchers are still working to understand the relationships between them.

But if you’ve spent years thinking: “Why does my body seem to react to everything?” “Why do I bruise so easily?” “Why are my joints so unstable?” “Why do I have pain, swelling, sensitivities and symptoms that seem completely unrelated?”
Sometimes the bigger picture matters.
