How can Commitment transform us? About four years ago I made the Commitment to daily meditations. I have been meditating since I was 17 however I had never really committed to a daily practice. I knew all the benefits; reduces stress, improves your mental health, reduces pain, makes you younger, helps you sleep better....... However it wasn't until I was in a health crisis did I truly commit to a daily practice. Meditation throughout these four years has given me a new life. I Trust now, I have learned to open my heart and love deeper. And judge less while finding Humility through kindness and LOVE. All through meditating and connecting to my Higher Source and The Divine within.

Inspire Courage Through Vulnerability

It is not easy to be Vulnerable. It takes a lot of Courage to be vulnerable living in a world full of judgment. Shame and vulnerability researcher Dr. Brené Brown says we all have a choice in life whether to put our true selves out there or hide behind our fears. If you have read Brené Brown's book "Daring Greatly" she starts the book with the following quote from Theodore Roosevelt ~
The Man In the Arena
“It’s not the critic who counts; not the man who points out how the strong man stumbles or where the doer of deeds could have done them better. The credit belongs to the person who is in the arena. Whose face is marred with dust and sweat and blood; who strives valiantly ... who at the best knows, in the end, the triumph of high achievement, and who at the worst, if he fails, at least fails while daring greatly ...”

We all fall down. “If we want to be courageous and we want to be in the arena, we’re going to get our butts kicked,” Brené says. “There is no option. If you want to be brave and show up in your life, you’re going to fail. You’re going to stumble. You’re going to fall. It’s part of showing up.”

Vulnerability and courage are not about winning or losing, it's about showing up. Is it scary, yes! But as Brené states “But I don’t think it’s as dangerous, scary, or terrifying as getting to the end of our lives and wondering, what if I would have shown up?”

I read the quote from Theodore Roosevelt often, especially when things get challenging. And when the one thing I want more than anything is to stay in bed and pull the covers over my head. Or numb myself with something like food, alcohol, or binge-watching Netflix! Which absolutely will do no good since whatever it is that I want to avoid only gets bigger! And scarier. And every time I show up, open up my heart, come from a place of love and compassion, and show vulnerability that big scary "thing" oftentimes turns into something beautiful.

Can We Transform through Interruption?

Our lives have been interrupted over the past two months in what appears to be a negative way. People have lost their lives, families have been broken, jobs have been lost, fears and worries have been heightened. However, many lives have been Transformed through this interruption in a very positive way. As individuals have been forced to stay home connections with family have been strengthened or perhaps even newly created. With this extra time, we are learning to take better care of ourselves by walking outside, or starting a new exercise program or like you developing a meditation practice. As I walk around my community a see a lot more people smiling and almost everyone whether walking or driving is waving to me. Thus I have been focusing on, which is something I do, the positive transformation this Interruption has created in our lives.

Transform Through the Liberation of FEAR ❤️

There is so much fear in everyone right now. Individuals are feeling isolated, with lots of anxiety and depression is at an all-time high which is concerning because it was at an all-time high before COVID-19. Fear has horrible effects on our overall mental and physical health. Fear weakens our immune system and can cause cardiovascular damage, gastrointestinal problems such as ulcers and irritable bowel syndrome, and decreased fertility. It can lead to accelerated aging, chronic diseases, especially cancer, and even premature death. How can you stay out of Fear and all that goes along with fear?

Some say the opposite of fear is LOVE. Dr. Joe Dispenza says "Fear is the Absence of Love." So Dr. Joe began a GOLOV20 meditation campaign to spread LOVE and show how the elevated emotion of LOVE can strengthen your immune systems. And Dr. Joe has lots of data he has gathered through the years of doing this work that actually proves how elevated emotions such as LOVE can reverse diseases! And he shows how the feelings of LOVE can actually travel! This campaign, GOLOV20 has reached over 200,000 people worldwide. Thus even in isolation, we can spread Love which is a huge gift.

SOCIAL ISOLATION - I am and have been totally supportive of isolation however what is going to happen as we begin to integrate back into our daily lives once the quarantine is lifted? Will we continue to "distance" ourselves and what are we teaching our children? I have read many studies that say social isolation is equal to smoking 15 cigarettes a day and Brene Brown uses this statistic in her book "Braving The Wilderness."

During my cancer journey, I wrote the following after many months of isolation. It was my first published piece and seems very appropriate to share at this time of uncertainty...............

The following came out of my aloneness while battling cancer:

We all need someone in our life. I believe people who say you should want someone but never “need” them have it all wrong. This attitude is keeping us, especially single people, isolated and disconnected.

We all need someone, a partner or teammate, someone who is in our corner. Someone who will always have our back no matter what life throws at us.

We all need people who will wholeheartedly accept us exactly as we are, warts and all. And that means every inch of us, the good, the bad, the crazy at times, the silly, and the whole unique person we are.

We all need people who will love us unconditionally and not feel the need to change us. People who will give their all to us, allowing us to give our all and best to them.

We all need epic, messy, crazy, laugh until your belly hurts, cry through the beautiful and rough moments…love. We all need people with whom to hold hands, love and pray, and stand united through thick and thin.

We all need to feel a sense of belonging, even if it’s just with one person. We all need people who make us feel authentic, safe, vulnerable, loved, passionate, free, cherished, respected, and alive.

March 24 - New Beginnings - We Will Never Be The Same
A sunrise and my new friend Howard.

I decided to disrupt my morning routine today. Instead of meditating first thing, then grabbing my lemon water and morning coffee which leads to journaling I instead got up early and was out the door to find the sunrise. And it was cold, the wind was blowing, however, I just kept on walking. I had a mission, get to a spot where I could see the sunrise. That spot was about 1.5 miles from my home. I left the iPhone, headphones, and music behind. I listened to the birds chirping and awakening to a new day. And since there is practically no one heading out to work the world was quiet. Very quiet and serene. I took in deep breathes and opened my heart to the beautiful moments. When I saw the sun come up I was overwhelmed with a deep sense of peace. The sun will always come up, that is something we can count on. We live in a volatile world and this virus will not be the only stretch we will encounter during our lifetime.

Thus it is so vital right now that we focus on what will always be a constant in our lives. If we wake up and learn to take care of it, Mother Earth and all of its beauty is constant. The love of our families will always be there. And most importantly the love of your higher power, God, The Divine, The Universe, The Lord, whatever you decide is right for you. The love of your higher power will always be there. And what I am discovering the more I feel oneness and wholeness the deeper I understand that the love of a higher source is within each and every one of us. We are all in this together.

I started to walk home and through our community park. I noticed a man sitting on one of the benches. I have seen this man before. He has a large walker and is on oxygen. I typically smile but I never engage. Today, instead of walking around him I walked close to him, within six feet, and began a conversation. I stopped and I stood there and I got to know Howard. It was clear he was lonesome. I let Howard do most of the talking. I stood still and listened. I really listened, not thinking about what I was going to say once he stopped talking. I found so much beauty in this man, his heart, his words, and his actions. Later in the afternoon, I walked to our local family restaurant to pick up take out for my son and I. Engaged with two more individuals in our community, again at least six feet apart. But we talked, smiled and laughed.

Here are a couple of things I learned today. Disrupting your routine can lead to some beautiful revelations and peace. And even though we are distancing ourselves from each other we can still from afar engage for a moment or two and make a new friend. A connection can still happen.

My Personal Life – What truly matters. I am the mother of four wonderful kids, mostly grown and ten grandchildren. In 2013 I was diagnosed with a rare and aggressive cancer that came back three times and almost took my life. I was working 70-80 hours a week, was not exercising on a regular basis, traveled a lot, was stressed 80% of the time, and lived in fear…….fear of financial loss, fear of being alone, fear of losing everything including my health.

How I Almost Died – The third time cancer came back I found myself in an ICU on a Ventilator with large tumors on the side of my face. The surgical oncologist that was brought in to treat me wanted to literally cut off the left side of my face. At this point, I had been fighting cancer for two years and had met with over 15 oncologists all over the country. The majority of people trust doctors and would have gone through with the surgery. If I had made it through the series of surgeries, I would have been deformed, on a feeding tube for life and my smile would have been gone. Not a life I wanted to live and I knew there was a better way.

Finding the Right Solutions – I became my own advocate, plus I had unrelenting faith and started to research every option possible. And I didn’t have a lot of time, the tumors were getting larger every day. By combining medical with other modalities I was not only able to get rid of cancer which never spread even though it was extremely aggressive, but I was also able to come out of this cancer journey healthier than I have ever been with more strength and energy plus I am now leading a life full of joy and happiness.
