I took a much needed social media break. Do you ever do that? It’s a nice escape for a while to reset a little bit. I also feel like our summer is slipping away so I’ve been enjoying every minute.

Our next stop in our Colorado adventure was to Mesa Verde. It’s a #nationalpark that’s close to Colorado’s south west border and our furthest stop. In it are various cliff dwellings which provided shelter for Native Americans over 700 years ago. We did a Native American unit this past year, so the girls were excited to see first hand where they lived.

Several of the tours are 3-4 hours long so while it would’ve been great to learn about the dwellings in detail, I didn’t think the girls could make it through. We opted instead for Step House which you can tour through informally yourself.

The hike to see it is 500 feet down and then back up on a path that can be narrow at times bordering a cliff. Then we walked through the dwelling using stairs and a ladder to see the various levels inside. It was really cool and unlike anything we’d seen before. A ranger popped by to show us a few things we wouldn’t have noticed otherwise, like a cob of corn in perfect condition shielded away from the elements. If we were to return, we’d wait until the girls could do the longer tours to take in as much as possible.

Go early as it gets hot and know that the road leading in to all dwellings are extremely winding for 30-40 minutes. There are several pull offs to enjoy the view which we did just to take a break from the roller coaster of a nightmare it was to get there. Plan accordingly. The views however, are insane. So unique and gorgeous. Everywhere you looked was breathtaking.

Our site was inside the park and was gorgeous. State and National Parks always have more space between sites and this one was so green and lush.

Blog post coming for other tips on a Mesa Verde visit soon.

For a wild story (literally and figuratively), check the Gator Farm story in my highlights. It’s the first time we’ve veered off the road to check something out and it was totally worth it. Hence the look on my face. 😬

If you’re passing through that area in Colorado, or visiting the Sand Dunes, plan for a stop. You won’t be disappointed!!

If you're in metro Colorado and want a short 3.5 hour road trip that's family-friendly, check out the Great Sand Dunes. My latest post highlights how to make it easier with kids, but the tips work for all.

This is one stop that we'll make again and again with the girls. We all loved it!

We’re closing out our time here in the Sand Dunes and so happy we made the trip out. I’m realizing that no matter how much fun we have, we’re always ready to move on to the next stop. It wasn’t always this way, but we know now that there’s a new adventure waiting for us. We found a rhythm to the constant change.

Next up is Mesa Verde and I’m a little nervous because their tours to see the cliff dwellings were either 3 or 4 hours long. 😬 They said the 3 hour one was kid friendly. I’m not sure whose kids they’re talking about, but it’s definitely not ours so we’ll have to do some improvising which is fine. We don’t keep a tight schedule by any means.

We’re still doing some modified school in the morning. Just finishing a few projects and making sure we’re still getting our reading in, which is an easy way to spend some down time after we spend the afternoons out.

Tomorrow we only have about 4 hours in the car which now seems like nothing at all.

I have a blog on car activities and ways to pass the time coming too. I feel like after a year, I might finally have some worthwhile things to share. 😉

We took a few months off from camping so the girls could play lacrosse, so now that it’s over we have some really fun trips planned.

We’re starting with a Colorado trip to visit a few of our favorite stops from last year, as well as places we’ve never been. How is it possible as 2 natives that we have never been here!?

The Sand Dunes feel like a far away destination. It’s so vast with sand as far as you can see. It’s often windy here which made us wonder why all of the sand doesn’t eventually just blow away? 🤷🏼‍♀️ Can someone please explain this to us?

We’ll head back again tomorrow when it’s warm. This was just a quick post-dinner preview complete with tennis shoes and socks, no eye wear to keep sand out, or anything else practical you’d bring. 🙄 Tomorrow though, we’ll be ready! @ Great Sand Dunes National Park and Preserve

I’m always so excited to find an amazing line that’s local (Boulder, CO!) and owned by a great family who are trying to do some good. Meghan created @revyskincare in response to a medical diagnosis from her son knowing that a clean lifestyle would benefit him throughout his life. She created 3 products that have become irreplaceable for me, and a cleanser that is one of the smartest around.

REVY is perfect for sensitive, reactive and breakout-prone skin, teens, or someone who likes their routine to be clean and simple. The star for me though, is the cleanser.

It has a texture to it that’s unlike any I’ve ever tried, it’s a light gel cleanser that feels airy and almost whipped. A small amount goes far, and the foam builds up, breaking down all traces of dirt and makeup. It leaves skin feeling clean and neutral, not stripped which is unusual for a gel cleanser. Bonus: The light citrus scent smells fresh and clean. $29

Protect, their am moisturizer, has an ingredient list like that of a hydrator that costs at least twice as much. It’s a sophisticated blend of organic aloe, oils, and extracts that make up this mid-weight lotion that strikes a perfect balance. It also offers free radical protection and a shine-free finish that won’t irritate or break out reactive skin. $36

Repair is their night cream with a different but equally complex ingredient list meant to clarify, balance, and reverse UV damage. It leaves my skin feeling balanced, hydrated, and calm. It’s the perfect end to my otherwise busy skincare routine. It also delivers the moisture I need when I scale down to moisturizer only when we’re camping or when I just want to get to bed. $39

I also love that REVY has thought out every detail from their packaging. Their entire airless pump (which I love- especially for travel) is recyclable. Their shipping and packaging boxes are both recyclable and printed on post-consumer materials. They also make a donation to the Children’s Tumor Foundation with every purchase.

REVY is such an awesome, clean line with amazing products and tons of heart. ♥️

Mother’s Day weekend was spend camping with friends. It was the perfect reminder that camping is our happy place and warmer weather is around the corner.

Hope all of you moms, pet moms, those hoping to become a mom, and those who choose a life free from kids all had a day filled with peace and love. 💗 @ Florissant Fossil Beds National Monument

If you still have any doubts if a natural deodorant will actually work, try @piperwai

I’ve tried nearly every one on the market in the past 10 years and I can attest to the fact that many of them don’t work at all, so I can see why people get burned on the idea of trying another one.

@piperwai (pronounced pie-per-why) gets its power from activated charcoal which absorbs both moisture and odor. Coconut oil makes it easy to swipe on, and its scent comes from essential oils that are gender-neutral. My picky and active hubby loves the formula (and scent) which works better than any formula he’s tried. I’ll next buy their Deodorant Cream, which is the same formula but in a jar because I prefer that method of application.

They also sent along a hand sanitizing gel and bathroom spray in beautiful glass bottles- both winners.

6 years ago @piperwai was featured on Shark Tank and has been a cult-fave ever since. It’s also cruelty-free, vegan, guaranteed, and a black, female-owned business. 💥

We had a Pre-K graduation for Lola today to celebrate her moving on from Pre-K complete with a ceremony, pizza and cake.

Her sisters had ceremonies at their schools and since we’re homeschooling this year, it was up to us to make it special. I think it was a day she won’t forget.

Last night at around 11pm, I told Mike we needed a #yesday for the girls. Our routine has gotten a little stale and they deserved a day that they could plan and we could all enjoy.

I hung a sign with balloons in the hallway so when they awoke, they’d know right away. It started simple with pancakes and M&M’s for breakfast, but quickly escalated into an overnight camping trip at a place about 20 minutes away.

We packed up and headed out for a relaxing day that was exactly what we needed complete with Grandma meeting us for dinner and s’mores.

I told the girls we were proud of them for not asking to buy anything. These girls just want to camp. 🏕

Story in highlights.

Now that hand sanitizer is as ubiquitous as lip balm in your bag, we’ve all become experts at finding the good ones. Everly is our toughest critic since her hands literally crack and bleed when she uses one that’s too harsh, so we were thrilled to have found @earthbabyluv which is gentle on her hands while keeping her hands germ-free.

Earth Baby’s formulas are made with organic ingredients and are safe for babies older than 2 months. They’re also formulated without dyes, essential oils for scents, preservatives, or other harsh synthetics. With that huge recall over the past year of dozens of hands sanitizers, we feel good about this organic and safe formula.

They also sent over a travel size of their Moisturizing Lotion which is genius. 💥Getting a lotion this balanced is no small feat. It’s a light formula that dissolves into the skin leaving just a slip of softness behind that lasts for hours. At just $8 for the full size, I’ll be stocking up on a few more to keep in the girls’ bathrooms post-shower, and one for mine as well.
