This sounds fake, but there really is a 2026 case report behind it, and the details are wild. An elderly woman with advanced Alzheimer’s had spent about five years with severely reduced speech, mostly giving one-word responses and showing very little spontaneous communication.

She was given 5 grams of psilocybin-containing mushrooms under supervision. Around 19 hours later, she woke up and started talking about her own life for hours. Over the next several days, researchers also documented better walking, dressing herself, restored continence, stronger emotional reactions, better memory for recent context, and more social interaction. Some of those gains reportedly lasted for weeks.

But this is where the internet needs to chill a little. This was ONE patient, not a clinical trial, and the researchers explicitly said it does not prove Alzheimer’s was reversed. The first session also came with real risks, including heavy sweating, suspected overheating and a prolonged deep sleep-like state.

The most interesting part might be the authors’ theory: maybe some abilities are not completely gone in advanced dementia, but temporarily inaccessible.

That is a VERY different claim from “mushrooms cure Alzheimer’s,” but still kind of mind-blowing.
