A strong second place finish today on the 28 mile Port Wing to Duluth offshore race for Team Shing-a-Ling!
Shingy is putting the hurt on the rest of the fleet this afternoon. Port Wing to Duluth. 28 miles. With the A2 up and TWS 10-12, TWA 135-145, conditions are right in our wheelhouse.

We got notice yesterday it’s time to turn our traveling trophies back in for the year. We didn’t want to give up “the auld mug”, so we went out today and won it again. Duluth to Port Wing - First in fleet, second year in a row.

Today’s race was 25 miles downwind from Two Harbors back to Duluth. We hit our highest (documented) speed of 17+ knots and sustained surfs (planing perhaps?) of 12-14+ knots for hours. What a blast!

Today’s race was the 25 mile Duluth to Two Harbors offshore. Forecast was for a drifter, so we went with light crew. But Mother Superior always has something else up her sleeve and gave us 15-20 knots hard upwind. We still managed third place despite being 300-400lbs light on the rail.

This is Shing-a-Ling. She’s a 33’ J/99 racer/cruiser sailboat dream machine. The first video is her slicing into 15-18 knot breeze in max fast upwind mode making about 7 knots only 24-28 degrees or so off the (apparent) wind. The second video shows her ghosting along doing 6+ knots in light downwind breeze. She is a pleasure to sail in all conditions and we love her.
