Shing-a-Ling Sailing

In a 19-boat class stacked with some of the most experienced sailors and toughest competition in the entire 200 boat fleet, 8th place isn’t disappointing. Just finishing this year’s grueling race without damage or injury is an achievement we’re proud of considering 9 had to drop out.

Team Shing-a-Ling has arrived safely to the Pink Pony on Mackinac Island. 259 miles and 48 hours of tough sailing for a Dark & Stormy. GREAT SUCCESS!

We made it through the night, but it was rough. Storms brought hours of winds blowing 30-35 with gusts as high as 45. Waves built to 6-8’. Things got too much and we dropped the main sail to the deck and were able to go upwind into waves making 7 knots with just our small jib. It was a wet and wild ride, but we got through better than 6 of the 16 boats in our class who had to drop out with equipment and sail failure.
Now the sun is out, crew is rested, and we’re still in the hunt approaching midpoint. 130 miles to go.

Team Shing-a-Ling is about to set off to start the 2026 Bayview Mackinac Race race. Next stop- Mackinac Island!
