Just a portion of the freeze damaged vacuum breaker / backflow preventers I've changed over the past few weeks. Gave the last pile to the scrap guy. No one anticipated the extended freezing temps and thought to cover their irrigation pipes.

Well, this is something I've never run into. A Rainbird outdoor ESP timer from 1999. As you can see the tiny label says to use a rechargeable 9 volt. You can also see what happened when a regular battery was used. Current owner who recently purchased property didn't put it in there. Was probably in there for years. System was dead because timer was barely alive and display was half-working. You can see how hot the battery got, the "energizer" label is literally melted off of it.

This is something I see a lot of - damage to sprinkler pipe risers from an animal chewing on them. I'm guessing a squirrel, but I can't very this as I've never caught one in the act. Irrigation issues? Zones not turning on or off? Low pressure on a zone?

Sometimes you just have to wonder what a previous repair company was thinking when they "repaired" this wiring. Open / bare connections, balls of electrical tape (hint, that's about as waterproof as the bare connections) and what I believe was some speaker wire here and there. This is one of those situations where that rats nest just gets all cut out and it all gets rewired correctly. Irrigation issues? Does your timer say a zone is running but it's not or displaying a zone error? I'm your guy! Available 7 days a week.

THIS is exactly why I recommend testing your entire sprinkler system after ANY digging of any kind has been done on your property - even getting cable tv or a phone line installed. In this case, 2 different companies cut the same sprinkler pipe 15 feet away from each other.

Another complete irrigation valve replacement and manifold rebuild after the previous company who will remain un-named did this leaking disaster. I think they used a gallon of glue too. I'd be absolutely ashamed to leave a job looking like this. Complete tear out, new valves, new everything, and now about 2 feet above ground for access per customer request.

Some interesting root damage on this one! Customer had standing water near her garage, Upon digging (and moving stepping stones) I unearthed the irrigation box and valves - along with a huge 5-6" diameter root growing diagonally through valve box under the pipes, pushing them up and fracturing the pipes. Best solution was to relocate the valves up and away from the root and above the ground. There were some weird compound angles I had to compensate for due to everything moving over the years, but I got er' done with fresh Hunter control valves :P Have Irrigation issues?
