This is exactly why BEBES was so proud to be able to collect donations for and volunteer with the Diaper Bank of NC last year!

A huge thank you to everyone who came out for Sexual Health Trivia last night! I think we can safely say that it was a very successful event! And a special think you to The Baxter for hosting!
Do you know? "Each year, millions of women worldwide give birth without the help of a trained health worker. These births often take place at home, where the risk of infection is high. Infection is a leading cause of death among these women and their infants. The clean-delivery kit is a simple approach to reducing this risk."
BEBES is excited to announce that we will be donating a little over 200 safe birth kits to NGOs in Haiti and Uganda!

BEBES and Nursing Students for Choice invited Provide to give a training on care and support for women facing unintended pregnancy, with a focus on counseling for all options, particularly complete and accurate abortion options. The training was this morning and it was a fantastic! We can't wait to invite Provide back for future trainings to reach even more people!

This week, BEBES members got together to wrap up a year long project! Carolina BEBES, together with the UNC Chapel Hill School of Nursing and a grant from the UNC Gillings School of Global Public Health, spent the year gathering donations for birth kits. With everyone's help, we were able to build 230 birth kits, which will be sent to Family Health Ministries new Women's Clinic in Haiti and distributed to various groups in Uganda through the Uganda Village Project! Each birth kit contains: 1 plastic sheet, 1 blade, 2 gloves, 8 pieces of gauze, 3 pieces of string, and soap. BEBES is incredibly proud and honored to be able to help our international community with this project. Thanks to each of our partners and members for their time and effort this year!

Last night, BEBES members Kim and Val spent their evening at Maureen Joy Charter School's Health Fair, giving information about safe s*x, contraception and consent. It was a very successful event, with tables for dental health, nutrition, CrossFit and yoga, health insurance, education, s*xual health and more, plus a raffle that the students won tickets to enter by interacting with the different tables and representatives. It was a wonderful night of community involvement - thanks for your help!
BEBES is planning a birth kit building event for the Spring and we need your help! Let us know if you or anyone you know has access to or would be interested in helping find donations for the kits. We are looking for the following items: soap, plastic gloves, gauze, blades, string, and plastic sheet.

In October 2015, Carolina BEBES went on a tour of the Birth and Wellness Center in Chapel Hill. It was a great experiece to see what giving birth in a center like that would be like and how their well women care is structured. A very interesting and educational morning!

Carolina BEBES hosted their first Diaper Drive, benefitting the Diaper Bank of NC, in November 2015. With the cooperation of the School of Public Health, School of Nursing, School of Medicine, School of Social Work, and the Women's Health Information Center at the NC Women's Hospital, we were able to collect over 2500 diapers, along with over 200 wipes and over 200 feminine hygiene products. We delivered everything on November 14th and a small group of us stayed to help with packaging wipes and labeleing diaper packs. We loved the experience, were so happy to help such a great local organization, and cannot wait for next year's drive!
