A Necessary Change: GraziSoaps Adjusts Shipping to Maintain Quality

To our valued GraziSoaps customers,

I'm writing to inform you about an upcoming change to my shipping policy. After careful consideration and much deliberation, I've made the difficult decision to discontinue my free shipping offer. This will be effective 4/14/25.

I know that free shipping is a popular perk, and I held onto it as long as I possibly could. However, with the ever-increasing costs of materials, packaging, and shipping itself, maintaining free shipping is no longer sustainable for GraziSoaps. To continue providing you with the high-quality soap you've come to love, this adjustment is necessary.

I understand that this news may be disappointing, but I want to assure you that this decision was not made lightly. I firmly believe that the quality of my ingredients is paramount. I refuse to compromise on the integrity and effectiveness of these soap by using cheaper alternatives simply to offset rising costs. I am committed to providing you with the best possible product for your skin, and that means sticking to my high standards.

Moving forward, I will be implementing a fixed base rate ($6.99) for shipping orders containing 2 to 10 bars of soap if the set up is possible. This new system will allow me to maintain my focus on using premium ingredients, ensuring the continued quality of GraziSoaps, while also enabling me to keep my business viable.

I am so grateful for your continued support and understanding. I truly appreciate that you value the benefits GraziSoaps provides for your skin. Your loyalty is what drives me to create the best possible product.

If you have any questions or concerns regarding this change, please don't hesitate to contact me. I am always happy to hear from you!

Thank you for being a part of the GraziSoaps family!

BEST USED AFTER DATE and GraziSoaps profile

While homemade soaps don't typically "expire" in the traditional sense of becoming unsafe to use, their quality can change over time, making a "best used after" date a helpful guideline. After this date, which is often around 3 - 5 weeks from the date it was made, you might notice some subtle differences. For example, the scent from essential oils may fade slightly or the colors derived from natural ingredients could become less vibrant. This is normal especially for homemade soaps. It is expected for soaps to dry or cure as they say for at least 3 weeks for tallow soaps. Waiting for at least 3 weeks will provide you with a better lather and overall experience. Soap is like fine wine - it gets better with age! The longer it dries, the moisture in the soaps from the distilled water used as one of the ingredients continue to evaporate from the soap. The soap will also last longer. I encourage patiently waiting for that soap bar to pass that best used date listed on the label for those reasons mentioned above.

The soaps I make are tested for safety. A pH tester is used to confirm that there is no lye present in a bar of soap. Lye molecules are normally gone after 24 to 48 hours. This is provided that the lye, water and oils are accurately measured. The scales I use to measure the ingredients are calibrated regularly to assure accuracy in measurements of lye, distilled water and oils which is crucial. That accuracy provides assurance that the soaps are safe to use as well as a soap that is designed to provide certain characteristics and function.

Storing your soap properly can significantly extend its "best used after" period and help it maintain its original qualities. It is best to keep your soap away from direct sunlight, extreme temperatures, and high humidity. A linen closet, drawer, or container with good airflow is ideal.

I list soaps after 3 - 4 days from the date they are made. This is why I have the best used after date written on the label. I encourage you to wait until that date is met so you get the best experience. At this time, my soap storage capacity and shelving space is not a large one. This is why I list them sooner on my Etsy shop. I also provide desiccant packets to help remove moisture when items are shipped.

I am only one person managing this business from making the soaps, creating my own labels, packaging the soaps, shipping and customer service. As a one person running GraziSoaps this can be challenging and my goal is to provide that unique experience and high end quality soap for you.

If you have any questions, please please feel free to contact me. I am here for you! Remember, I can also customize your dream soap for you!

Finding Salicylate-Free Shampoo Bars for Sensitive Scalps:

For those with salicylate sensitivities, finding everyday products that will not trigger a reaction can feel like a constant uphill battle. From skincare to toothpaste, navigating ingredient lists becomes a necessity. Shampoo is no exception, and the quest for a salicylate-free option can be particularly frustrating. Luckily, the rise of shampoo bars offers a promising solution: salicylate-free shampoo bars.

What are Salicylates?

Salicylates are naturally occurring chemicals found in many plants and used in various products, including medications, foods, and cosmetics. While generally harmless for most, individuals with salicylate sensitivities can experience a range of symptoms, from skin rashes and hives to headaches and even digestive issues. Common cosmetic ingredients like salicylic acid (a popular acne treatment), willow bark extract, and even certain fragrances can be problematic.

The Shampoo Challenge: A Salicylate Minefield

Traditional shampoos often contain a cocktail of ingredients, many of which can be potential sources of salicylates. Beyond direct salicylates like salicylic acid, derivatives, and extracts, fragrances are a major culprit. Fragrances are often complex blends of chemicals, and even seemingly "natural" fragrances can contain salicylate compounds derived from plant extracts.

Shampoo bars, a solid alternative to liquid shampoo, offer several advantages when it comes to minimizing salicylate exposure:

* Simpler Formulations: Shampoo bars typically have shorter, more transparent ingredient lists than their liquid counterparts. This makes it much easier to identify and avoid potential salicylate triggers.
* Targeted Ingredients: Many shampoo bar makers focus on using specific, natural, and often single-source ingredients known for their minimal or no salicylate content.
* Fragrance-Free Options: Finding fragrance-free shampoo bars is significantly easier than finding fragrance-free liquid shampoos. This eliminates a major source of salicylates and other potential irritants.

Here's what to look for when searching for a suitable shampoo bar:

* Ingredient List Scrutiny: Review the ingredient list. Avoid any ingredients known to be high in salicylates, such as salicylic acid, willow bark extract, wintergreen oil, and birch extract.
* Fragrance-Free is Key: Opt for fragrance-free varieties to avoid hidden salicylates in fragrance blends.
* Research Reputable Brands: Look for brands that prioritize natural and hypoallergenic ingredients.
* Check online reviews for feedback from other users with salicylate sensitivities.
* Consider Small Batch or Handmade Options: Smaller, independent businesses often have more control over their ingredients and are more likely to offer transparent formulations.
* Patch Test First: Before fully incorporating a new shampoo bar into your routine, perform a patch test on a small area of skin to check for any adverse reactions.

When reviewing ingredient lists, look for these simple, potentially LOW-salicylate ingredients:

* Sodium Coco Sulfate (SCS): A surfactant derived from coconut oil, often used as a cleansing agent.
* Coconut Oil: Can be moisturizing but may be too heavy for some hair types.
* Olive Oil: Gentle and nourishing.
* Cocoa Butter or Shea Butter: Adds moisture and emollience.
* Essential Oils (Use with Caution and Patch Test): Chamomile (German or Roman), Lavender (True), and Rose are sometimes tolerated, but always perform a patch test and use sparingly. Remember that sensitivities vary drastically!

The Takeaway:

Living with salicylate sensitivities can be challenging, but switching to a salicylate-free shampoo bar can significantly improve scalp health and overall well-being. By carefully researching ingredients, choosing fragrance-free options, and prioritizing transparent formulations, you can find a shampoo bar that keeps your hair clean and your scalp happy. Remember to always patch test new products and consult with a healthcare professional if you have concerns about salicylate sensitivities. Ditching the itch starts with informed choices and a commitment to reading those ingredient lists!

Ditch the Bottle: Uncovering the Amazing Benefits of Shampoo Bars

Tired of contributing to the overflowing plastic waste problem? Looking for a more natural and travel-friendly hair washing solution? Then it's time to discover the world of shampoo bars! These solid, concentrated cleansers are revolutionizing the way we care for our hair, offering a surprising array of benefits that extend far beyond just reducing plastic waste.

While initially they might seem like a novelty, shampoo bars are quickly gaining popularity for good reason. Beyond their eco-friendly appeal, they offer advantages for your hair, wallet, and even your travel bag. Let's explore the amazing benefits of switching to a shampoo bar:

1. Eco-Friendly and Sustainable:

Shampoo bars drastically reduce plastic waste. Each bar can replace multiple bottles of liquid shampoo, preventing them from ending up in landfills or polluting our oceans. Many shampoo bars also come in minimal or compostable packaging, further minimizing their environmental impact. By choosing a shampoo bar, you're making a conscious effort to reduce your carbon footprint and contribute to a more sustainable lifestyle.

2. Natural and Gentle Ingredients:

Many commercial shampoos are loaded with harsh chemicals, sulfates, parabens, and artificial fragrances that can strip hair of its natural oils, leaving it dry, brittle, and prone to breakage. Shampoo bars, on the other hand, often utilize natural and gentle ingredients like essential oils, plant-based butters, and nourishing herbs. This makes them a great option for sensitive scalps and those looking to avoid harsh chemicals.

3. Travel-Friendly and Convenient:

Forget about messy spills and TSA restrictions! Shampoo bars are solid, compact, and lightweight, making them perfect for travel. They take up less space in your luggage, eliminate the risk of leakage, and meet airline carry-on requirements. Plus, they're incredibly durable and won't crack or break easily.

4. Long-Lasting and Cost-Effective:

Don't let the size fool you. A high-quality shampoo bar can last significantly longer than a bottle of liquid shampoo. Due to their concentrated formula, you only need a small amount to create a rich lather. This longevity makes them a surprisingly cost-effective option in the long run, saving you money on frequent shampoo purchases.

5. Customized for Different Hair Types:

Shampoo bars are available in a wide variety of formulas designed for different hair types and concerns. Whether you have dry, oily, fine, thick, curly, or color-treated hair, you can find a shampoo bar specifically formulated to meet your needs. Look for ingredients that address your specific concerns, such as argan oil for hydration, tea tree oil for scalp health, or rosemary oil for hair growth.

Making the Switch:

Switching to a shampoo bar is simple! Wet your hair and the bar, then rub the bar directly onto your scalp or create a lather in your hands and apply it to your hair. Massage the lather into your scalp and hair, then rinse thoroughly. Remember to store your shampoo bar in a dry place to prolong its lifespan.

In conclusion, shampoo bars offer a multitude of benefits, from their eco-friendly nature to their gentle ingredients and travel-friendly convenience. By making the switch, you not only improve the health and appearance of your hair but also contribute to a more sustainable future. So, ditch the bottle and embrace the bar – your hair and the planet will thank you! ❤️

Cost of Homemade Soaps: A Closer Look

When it comes to comparing the cost of homemade soaps to store-bought soaps, it is essential to consider various factors beyond just the price tag. While it might seem that homemade soaps are expensive, let's delve deeper to understand their true value.

Quality Ingredients: Homemade soaps often use high-quality, natural ingredients such as essential oils, tallow, coconut oil, babassu oil, Shea butter, and olive oil, which can be pricey. However, these ingredients are packed with benefits for your skin, providing nourishment and avoiding harsh chemicals present in many commercial soaps.

Customization: One of the most significant advantages of homemade soaps is the ability to customize them according to preferences and specific skin needs. This level of personalization is not typically available with store-bought soaps.

Environmental Impact: Handmade soaps are often more environmentally friendly. Artisanal soap makers tend to use sustainable practices, reduce waste, and minimize packaging. By supporting these businesses, you contribute to a healthier planet.

Longevity: Although homemade soaps may have a higher upfront cost, they tend to last longer than their liquid counterparts. Since they are made with natural glycerin, they retain moisture and create a rich lather, allowing a smaller amount to be used per wash.

Local Economy: Purchasing homemade soaps also means supporting local artisans and small businesses, contributing to the growth of your community.

Taking these factors into account, homemade soaps might not be as expensive as they initially seem. Investing in quality, customized, environmentally-friendly products can lead to long-term benefits for both your skin and the environment. Ultimately, the value of homemade soaps extends beyond their price tag, providing a unique and wholesome experience worth considering.

Wow! These swirls in the Activated Charcoal Tallow Soap are pretty unique! What is cool about this is that the natural swirls that appear during the saponification process. No manipulation here when making this soap. Just simply incorporating the organic active charcoal powder in the soap batter until it reaches a certain thickness to pour into the mold.

These soaps are known for the ability to absorb impurities and toxins. When used in soap, it can help absorb excess oil, dirt and other buildup from your skin and pores which helps keep breakouts and bacteria to a minimum.

I will have this listed on my Etsy shop soon!

Have you ever wondered why your tallow soap may be more yellow one time and another time more white? Let's look at some reasons why this color of tallow soap may vary from time to time.

DIET - Cattle that eat grass produce yellower tallow. The type and quality of forage they are consuming – which will be influenced by the weather.
AGE - Older cows may have consumed more grass over their lives, so their tallow is yellower.
RENDERING PROCESS - Slower, traditional rendering methods preserve more of the natural pigments, resulting in a yellower tallow.
LOCATION - The final color of tallow can depend on the location and season. For example, beef fat may be more yellow on the East Coast than on the West Coast.
QUALITY - The color of tallow doesn't always indicate quality. Some companies may add ingredients like marigolds to make food appear more yellow.

I source beef tallow that will vary from batch to batch, from white to yellow. This beef tallow does not contain any food dyes and has not been bleached, deodorized, hydrogenated, or altered. Variances in color between batches is normal.

Please feel free to contact me with any concerns or questions.

Today I listed several varieties of Grass Fed Tallow Shampoo bars. One is specifically formulated to help with fine or thinning hair (scented with Clary Sage Essential Oil). The others offer variety of selections where the shampoo bars are high in tallow with olive oil, tallow with sunflower or tallow with all ingredients that are salicylate free. Nice large size bars (5.5 - 6 oz) that can be cut in half. Pair a shampoo bar up with unscented Tallow soaps for a great high moisturizing body soap experience! ❤️

Did you know that each ingredient (oils & fats) in a shampoo bar has specific functions? Knowing what each ingredient does gives the soap maker an opportunity to provide a shampoo bar that will give specific benefits to your hair.

For instance, the Goat Milk & Honey Grass Fed Tallow Shampoo bar that I formulated contains Tallow, Organic Coconut, Organic Olive Oil, Shea & Cocoa Butter, Organic Castor Oil, Goat Milk, Lavender Essential Oil and Raw Honey.

Tallow makes a great all around ingredient for soap making. It provides a long lasting, gentle cleansing and bubbling bar. Coconut Oil gives us cleansing, hardness to the bar as well as great bubbles. Olive oil is high in Vitamin E and polyphenols (antioxidants) and is very high in conditioning. While Shea & Cocoa Butter is high in Vitamin E it also contains Vitamin A and minerals and both are high in conditioning.

So why add the Goat Milk and Honey? These two ingredients are essential to help dry, frizzy hair. They both help to lock in moisture and calm the fizziness in hair.

While it is not exactly known if essential oils provide beneficial property to soaps after they go through a saponification process (turning into a solid soap) are retained; it does provide a wonderful aroma! There is mention by experts that essential oils can have some active beneficial properties in soaps, though not completely well understood. The reported benefits in some literature say that Lavender essential is good for soap in helping moisture balance, providing a soothing and calming experience to the scalp.

This shampoo bar (as seen in photo) does well for those who have have dry frizzy hair. Another great reason to use this type of shampoo bar is if you have hard water which can dry out your hair over time and this shampoo bar can help restore moisture balance.
