Meet Kris Buchanan, the heart and vision behind Jen Ryan—a business proudly celebrating its 25th anniversary this year! 🎉
GOODONYA began as a San Diego deli in 2001 before Kris opened GOODONYA Organic Eatery in Encinitas in 2015. Today, downtown Encinitas is its one and only home.
Born and raised in Tierrasanta, Kris always dreamed of living near the ocean. After retiring from the U.S. Field Hockey Team, she moved to Solana Beach and taught herself to surf. When she met her wife, who lived in Encinitas, Kris initially thought it seemed so far north—but once she made the move, she quickly realized just how special this community is.
Over time, Kris closed or sold the other deli locations so she could focus on living and working in the town she loves.
Her passion is creating food with thoughtfully sourced organic and regenerative ingredients—not following restrictive or “dogmatic” diets. GOODONYA can accommodate many dietary preferences, but its food is for everyone.
These days, Kris is especially excited about good good burger, GOODONYA’s new dinner concept at the same Coast Highway 101 location. Her current favorites are the burgers and the “off-the-hook” fried chicken sandwich, paired with a glass of sparkling rosé from one of the boutique natural-wine producers she has carefully sought out. 🍔🥂
Congratulations to Kris and the GOODONYA team on 25 incredible years! We’re so grateful they chose to make downtown Encinitas their home.

Encinitas things to do
Sarah Baek is our featured artist this fall! Stop by 818 S Coast Hwy 101 to view her vibrant large scale paintings. 🌺
About the artist:
Sarah Baek is a Korean-born painter based in the United States, working across painting and mixed media
Her work explores memory not as a fixed image, but as a lingering sensory condition shaped through color, atmosphere, and surface. Rather than describing specific narratives, she is interested in the unstable moments where memory begins to appear, dissolve, and transform.
Through layered acrylic painting and material experimentation, Baek builds surfaces that hold traces of pressure, transparency, density, and release. In her recent body of work, Intensity of Memory, memory is approached as a physical and emotional force embedded within the surface itself.
Nature often appears throughout her work, not as direct representation, but as a visual language through which sensation and perception emerge. Colors, textures, and fragmented forms become ways of tracing what remains before memory settles into a clear image.
Baek received her MFA from Hongik University in Seoul and her BFA from Hyosung Women’s University. Her work has been exhibited in Korea, Japan, the United Kingdom, Germany, and the United States, and has received awards through international juried exhibitions and competitions.
📍All works are available for purchase at 818 S Coast Hwy 101, Encinitas
