Hair Removal: 6 Things To Know Before Getting A Wax

6 Things to know before getting sugared or waxed and how to minimize your pain and prepare for beautiful skin First time or not, following these tips before a wax will make the process a whole lot easier.

Expert Advice: Pre-wax etiquette - what to do and what not to do - Capital Lifestyle

Wax etiquette

For those who are yet to pay a visit to the spa for their very first Brazilian or bikini wax, the thought of it all can be quite daunting.

[03/21/17]   Sugaring vs. Waxing

They are often put into the same category of hair removal because theyโ€™re somewhat similar in the way they get rid of unwanted hair.

Yes, both are designed to uplift hair out from the follicle.
However, they are different from one another in many aspects. Sugaring is the SWEETEST deal! Literally!

Sugar formula is superior:
-Real sugaring is made up of all natural food grade ingredients. Yep, you can even eat it!
-Wax is made of resins, artificial fragrances, dyes, chemicals and preservatives in their formula. Allergies are much more likely to occur with chemicals.

Youโ€™ll never leave feeling sticky:
-Wax can only be removed with special wax remover, baby oil or petroleum jelly.
-Sugar paste is water-soluble. A little water and it dissipates entirely.

Sugaring only adheres to dead skin cells: Yep, no chance of removing skin. Sugar only removes hair and exfoliates at the same time!

Sugar paste is never hot. Thereโ€™s no chance of burning the skin.

Sugaring technique removes the hair in the same direction as it grows. Yes, the SAME direction. And you know what that means?

Yep, next to ZERO ingrown hairs!!! Of course at home maintenance is highly recommended and preferred!

Sugar paste is hypoallergenic and non comedogenic, therefore wont cause break outs or clog your pores!

Considering an undercut? Read this first!

"I'm currently growing out an undercut, and I had both sides shaved. I'll make a list of pros and cons.
I seem to be in an endless cycle with shaved bits. I'll think my hair looks boring, then I'll shave something and think it looks awesome, then I'll get tired of it and let it grow.

- Easy to maintain, depending on the shape you get.
- Adds some life into your hairstyle even when you don't wanna do anything to it, just throw it to the side(if you get the side/s shaved) or put it into a ponytail(if you get an undercut).
- You can dye it crazy colours without fear of damage.
- You can get it shaved into interesting shapes, such as triangle, oval, heart etc. You can also get patterns shaved into it.]
- It's really easy to hide if you have long hair.
- The ways you can do it are infinite. You can shave a lot, or just a little, leave a bit of hair in the front(to help disguise it when you want, or just for added sass), just one side, both of 'em etc.

- If you're tidy and meticulous with an updo like me, it'll be a pain in the ass once you decide to let it grow.
- If you don't have a lot of hair/volume, you'll have even less.
- When you decide to let grow, trust me, it'll be years 'til it stops bothering you.
- If you do it yourself, it'll probably look wonky.
- I particularly find ponytails very strange-looking with shaved side(s).
- Scalp sunburn is a real thing, so if you live in a very sunny place, beware(been there).
- If your natural hair colour is on the red side, you'll look like you have a skin condition soon as it starts growing(been there too).

Other considerations:
- If you sleep on it and it's a bit grown out, it'll looky messy and kinked, but some water and combing it into place will help.
- People will probably stare at you a fair bit more, so think about if you like it or not.
- You might want to start with a small section in the nape, it's easier to disguise if you decide you hate it, and you'll lose less volume like that."

Hope this helps! Let me know if you have any questions! xoxoxo

10 Tips to Make a Bikini Wax or Bikini Sugar Hurt Less (Especially your first time!)

We're convinced only masochists look forward to a bikini wax, but you may need to take care of business before your next Summer weekend beach trip. But it doesn't have to hurt quite so badly. There are ways you can reduce the pain. If you're new to waxing or sugaring, start out with a professional to see how it's done. Here are some great tips:

1. Plan to wax/sugar after your period.

Your pain threshold is higher in the week after your period than beforehand. Think of it like this: if sappy commercials make you cry when you're premenstrual, having wax applied to your dainty bits certainly will.

2. Lose your self-consciousness.

Yes, a stranger is going to see your skin and your lady bits. Don't worry about offending her or feeling embarrassed. It's nothing she hasn't seen before, in fact she sees it all day long. The less anxious you are, the less you'll worry about pain.

3. Start off slowly.

Your first bikini wax is not the time to try a Brazilian. If you're new to waxing, go with a basic bikini wax. If you want to remove more, there's always next time. Work your way into it. But if you're brace, go big or go home.

4. Exfoliate.

The day before you decide to wax, exfoliate in the shower. This will remove dead skin, allowing the wax to grip shorter hairs and allowing them to slide out with ease.

5. Speak up.

A good esthetician will work with you to make sure you're as comfortable as you can be. Don't be too shy to say something if you have a low pain tolerance โ€” it's better to speak up than to suffer in silence.

6. Use hard wax.

Hard wax is gentler than soft wax and much less abrasive to your skin, so visit a knowledgeable aesthetician that uses it. (I ONLY use hard wax...and of course my ALL NATURAL sugaring method)

7. Take an over-the-counter pain reliever.

About 30 minutes to one hour before your appointment, take an Advil, Tylenol, or other over the counter pain reliever.

8. Breathe.

It can be tempting to hold your breath, but breathing in and out helps reduce the pain. Take a deep breath in when the wax goes on, then breathe out when your esthetician gives it a yank.

9. Know which parts are most sensitive.

You wouldn't expect it, but having hair pulled from the lower abdomen area is more painful than it is around the vaginal opening. Prepare yourself and keep breathing.

10. Turn your head and cough. An esthetician at Bliss taught us this trick: when the wax is about to be ripped off, cough. Sounds weird, but it distracts from the pain.

Feel free to let me know if you have any questions!!
