What happens under the skin when it's exposed to the sun?

⚠️UVA penetrates deeply⚠️
UVA rays reach the dermis, where your collagen and elastin live. They generate reactive oxygen species (“free radicals”) that damage cells and connective tissue.
⚠️Collagen gets broken down⚠️
UV exposure activates enzymes called matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs). These enzymes break down collagen. Repeated exposure also interferes with the skin's ability to make and properly organize new collagen.
⚠️Elastin becomes abnormal⚠️
Damage to elastin accumulates over years, producing solar elastosis—abnormally thick, degraded elastic fibers. This contributes to loss of firmness and elasticity.
🛑Wrinkles and sagging develop🛑
As collagen and elastin deteriorate, the skin becomes less structurally supported. This leads to fine lines, deeper wrinkles, laxity, and a leathery texture.
🛑Pigmentation becomes uneven🛑
UV stimulates melanocytes, contributing to sunspots, freckles, and uneven skin tone. UV exposure can also make existing pigmentation more persistent.

End of an era for me.

I came out of cosmetology school swinging. All I had my heart set on was nails. I loved acrylic, gels, glitter, stamp art, creating art.

In a small town (Kingfisher), I became discouraged. It was hard to compete with nail salons who could take walk-ins, multiple clients at once, and had the reputation of designing whatever a client wanted (ish).

I underpriced my work, and bent my hours to appease potential clients. That's a mistake I learned the hard way. The joy I once had for nails quickly faded, and I moved into the hair department.

Slowly my nail clients dropped off to nothing. HOWEVER, I still have a handful of pedicure clients I adore so much. Those women are a large reason why I'm still in Kingfisher ❤️

As every good story comes to an end, my chapter with nails has reached its last page. Today, I packed up my remaining supplies to take home.

It's not a decision I regret. My new passion has become facials 😍 I look forward to investing more of my time and attention to becoming the best facialist Enid has.

I'll just have really nice nails doing it 😉

✨️Finding the correct cleanser for your skin is important because it helps remove dirt, oil, makeup, and bacteria without damaging your skin’s natural protective barrier.

The right cleanser can:

Side story- I've had clients bring in products to show me what they use at home. We go over them, research ingredients, and see how it's affecting their skin. Sometimes home products are okay, and I never want to sell my products just to sell them. BUT, sometimes department store products can do more damage than good.
Client A- her exfoliant was causing micro tears in her already sensitive skin. We haulted that exfoliant and started using the Micro Exfoliating Honey Cleanser.
Client B- was using a system with ingredients 10× less effective than what my products had to offer. We haulted that night time cream and started using Nighttime Repair.
