Unfilteredtherapistmama
LCSW & mom of 2 over 40 (12 year gap š¤·āāļø) sharing unfiltered parenting truths as a licensed therapist -plus, practice building tips for fellow therapist moms
You're a busy, overwhelmed, maybe-a-little-perfectionist mama. You are struggling to manage all the various hats you were, take care of yourself all while helping your kiddo manage their emotions. You're googling symptoms at 10pm, walking on eggshells to avoid meltdowns, and wondering if you're doing more harm than good. You're doing everything to support your child with anxiety, fear, or big emotionsābut inside, you're running on fumes. Burnt out. Disconnected. Anxious about your anxious kid. I see you. And Iāve been you. Iām Cerissa RhodesāLCSW, Regulated Parenting Coach, and homeschooling mama of a child with anxiety. I spent years trying to help my son by protecting him from every fear. Turns out? I was unintentionally feeding the anxiety. And while I was so focused on helping him, I ignored my own regulation, needs, and peace. Everything changed when I started with me. Now, I help busy, overwhelmed, and ambitious moms learn how to:
ā
Calm their own nervous system first
ā
Respond to anxious kids without feeding the fear
ā
Set boundaries without guilt
ā
Feel confident, connected, and in control
This isnāt about fixing your kid. Itās about becoming the regulated, empowered mom you already areājust buried under the chaos.

Sleep was good until it wasnāt!
Itās progress, but still sooooo little sleep for mama. Last night wake in pack in play 20min a sleep by 7pm. Up at 9pm. Picked up for about one minute no talking. Back in pack n play with tummy rub for 18 min. 11pm awake again. Picked up for about 2 min no talking. This time I patted his tummy and he stayed awake, but was quiet. He fell asleep, in the pack n play with me in my bed at 11:33. 12:40 first feeding and resumed bed sharing at that point. He continued to wake and was completely up for the day at 5:30am. Progress: he fell asleep on his own in the pack n play both with and with out soothing. STILL disrupted sleep and a sleepy mama!
One of the hardest parts of parenting is remaining calm and the chaos. Especially when weāre dealing with difficult behaviors in public and we have our own feelings weāre working through. I would be lying out of my ass if I didnāt tell you, I was so embarrassed and I wanted to just throw him in the van slammed the door shut and pull away. Eventually, I took a couple deep breaths. I let him have his moment which looked like letting him scream, and I said out loud I know you donāt wanna leave. You were having so much fun as I was calming down as I started to realize what he was going through I was unable to offer some options about what we could do next I was able to recognize that he truly was struggling because itās hard to stop doing things we like he calm down he got in the car seat and we moved on Now it would also be a lie to say all this happened in three minutes Iām sure I was in that parking lot for a good 20 minutes, but it ended well. We were both calm and he fell asleep on the way home because he obviously needed a nap.
I mean I donāt like it⦠He donāt like it⦠My b***s donāt like it⦠Can we just not? Like literally if he closed his eyes for 2 seconds heād be out!
As a therapist mama, I KNOW some crying is going to exist as my baby learns sleep skills. I also know at no point do I need to let him cry alone in order to learn be sleep skills. Therefore, I am starting on a slow transition to teaching sleep skills that do not involve comfort nursing ALL night! Been there done that.
You can do all the RIGHT thingsā¦you can be the āperfectā parent (as you all know I am ššš-please hear the sarcasm) and your kiddo will still act like a little sh-ā¦3 year old at the exact worse time such as after introducing yourself as a child therapist that offers parent coaching. To date this was one of his biggest public meltdowns! Actually was his biggest! When did your kiddo decide to act their age at the exact right time? lol
