Prof. Jousch on what makes a good salve vs a cheap salve.
I'm not as anti-sunflower oil as the Professor, it actually has some great properties for skin. When you look at most salves their top ingredients are cheaper less expensive carrier oils.
Our salves are formulated with shea butter as the top ingredient. We also use Jojoba oil which closely matches our skins natural sebum. We formulate ingredients that provide penetrating moisturization but also a protective barrier to lock in the moisture. This is what we mean when we say "no fillers", none of our ingredients are there just to make the formulation cheaper and take up space.

Freshly poured batch of Jasmine Bergamot.
Most salves are basic — beeswax and oil. We add shea butter because it's one of the richest sources of fatty acids and vitamins A and E in any natural butter. It absorbs without sitting on top of your skin, actually moisturizes instead of just sealing, and has natural anti-inflammatory compounds that help with everything from dry cracked hands to rough elbows.
After it's freshly poured, shea's triglycerides have a tendency to lock up into a rigid crystalline structure, which makes the salve harder. Over time, this structure reorganizes itself into something softer. It literally gets more luxurious over time.
The word is polymorphism. I just call it patience.

I first smelled this combination walking through Seville early one morning — jasmine growing over every wall, mixing with something bright in the air. It lands like jasmine tea. Floral sweetness cut with something clean and citrusy.
New scent. Same salve. Jasmine & Bergamot Alpine Salve — perfectly compliments your morning ritual.

Prof. Jousch on our Lavender/Eucalyptus Alpine Salve

One of those simple little things that’s been making a big difference lately… 🌿
Between getting back into trail running and spending more time outside, I’ve really been paying attention to how I’m taking care of my skin out here. Our climate is no joke.
I’ve been using this salve from Edelweiss Botanicals under my SPF before heading out, and it’s been such a game changer—super hydrating without feeling heavy.
Shared a full spotlight on them over on the blog 💛
Really love supporting small, intentional brands like this—especially when they actually work in mountain life.

The smell of line-dried linen. A lavender farm at dusk. The cool rustle of eucalyptus.
All of it, in a tin.
Alpine Salve is here. Made by hand in small batches.

Trail season called and Edelweiss Botanicals answered 🌿
My friend Desiree Root wrote a great post about her go-to trail season essentials here in Evergreen — and our Alpine Salve made the list as her pre-SPF base layer for those high-altitude days. That's exactly what we make it for.
Thanks for the love, Desiree! Check out her full post below 👇
Hydrated, Grounded & Ready for Trail Season 🌿☀️ There’s something about this time of year in Evergreen… the trails start calling a little louder, the days stretch out just a bit longer, and you can feel that shift into hiking season. I’ve already found myself back out...
