It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of our co-worker and friend, Larry Yack.
Larry joined our Falls Church Clinic in April of 2010. He was passionate about physical therapy and treating patients, which made him an excellent clinician and teacher. He was always incredibly energetic and enthusiastic when interacting with his patients and co-workers. As Larry would say, "It's Bodies in Motion, not Bodies at Rest!"
Larry was incredibly generous. He regularly came in with coffee or treats for his fellow coworkers, and rarely returned from a vacation without a gift or two. He would also help out in any way he could to make our practice stronger and better (and maybe build a shelf or two). He loved golf, all things Disney, Christmas and Halloween.
He will be greatly missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him.
He is survived by his wife of 47 years Kandius Yack; his son Jeff and daughter-in-law Vi; his daughter Michelle, future son-in-law John and grand-beagle Betty; his two loving sisters and their families; and countless friends and colleagues who will forever be touched by his example.
IT Band Syndrome (or Iliotibial Band Syndrome) is an overuse injury commonly experienced by runners. It occurs when the thick connective tissues located on the lateral or outer part of thigh and knee become tight or inflamed. If the IT Band isn't working properly, movement of the knee can become increasingly painful, forcing runners or athletes to the sidelines for weeks. If you think you might be experiencing IT Band Syndrome, physical therapy can help! A physical therapist can evaluate your motion and provide you with restoration exercises to treat your movement dysfunction.
In this video, Bodies in Motion Physical Therapy's Fairfax PT, Ben Fuentes, explains what IT band syndrome is and how you can activate muscles to inhibit or decrease IT band tension.

Is your Vertigo caused by BPPV?
64 in 100,00 individuals suffer from vertigo and dizziness related to BPPV (Benign Paroxysmal Positional Vertigo). Because many conditions can lead to dizziness, patients may require 3-5 physician visits before being accurately diagnosed. A vestibular physical therapist can quickly screen your symptoms and treat BPPV with just a few sessions – and sometimes just one is all it takes!
In this video, Bodies in Motion Physical Therapy's Ashlee Kim explains how BPPV causes symptoms of dizziness and vertigo, and how a vestibular Physical Therapist can assess and treat the issue. If you are still unsure if BPPV is related to your impairments, contact one of our clinics to see if a vestibular consult is appropriate for you!

If you've been diagnosed with tendinosis, you may wonder how it happened. The most common cause: OVERUSE.
Most of us lead a typically sedentary lifestyle. When we begin training, the tendon is maladapted to exercises, especially exercises done incorrectly. It simply can’t handle the strain of a training error until it has remodeled, and that takes time and effort.
To learn more, watch this short video from our Falls Church Clinic Director, Mike Mastrostefano, about the deeper causes of Tendinosis.

Check out our newest video on Plantar Fasciitis from the Reston Clinic Director, Nelson Min!
Plantar fasciitis is an irritation to the plantar fascia. Your plantar fascia is a dense tissue on the bottom of your feet that can get irritated from several causes including calf tightness. It is commonly reported as pain with initial weight bearing when getting out of bed that decreases as you continue your day. Pain can be sharp at times and will limit your walking, standing and tolerance for exercise. Physical Therapy can help with your pain and loss of function if you have plantar fasciitis. Using several methods we can loosen your muscles and decrease the strain to the plantar fascia.

More and more people are finding themselves spending the majority of their day sitting. We sit during our commute, while we work (and work from home), and oftentimes when we are relaxing.
Prolonged sitting can have adverse effects on one’s health including poor posture and poor back health. If you find yourself experiencing neck and low back pain due to prolonged sitting, correcting your sitting posture can have a significant positive effect.
What is good posture? When demonstrating good posture, the key parts of one’s body are properly aligned and supported by the right amount of muscle tension. This can reduce the amount of strain on the body.
Check out our most recent Video from our Fairfax Clinic Director, Sam Kang.

A very brief synopsis of his findings...
CBD has shown some promise in helping cope with pain and inflammation. But, it is important to remember that there are no FDA approved over the counter CBD products. This means that purity and dosage will vary and not be assured. If you have questions about using CBD you should ALWAYS CONSULT YOUR PHYSICIAN BEFORE EXPERIMENTING WITH ANY NEW SUPPLEMENT!
