The therapy room isnāt exempt from your attachment patterns. Itās often where they show up the clearest.
Day 9 of Black Music Month, Iām sharing songs about anger. Anger is not a bad emotion. There are no ābad emotions.ā Anger, like all emotions, is a signal that you need more or less of somethingā¦ie. more communication, less manipulation. For us as Black people, our anger has been used against us, often to gaslight us into believing we have no reason for our collective or individual anger. These songs remind us that we get to be angry (but please, donāt use this as permission to bust nobodyās windows out their car)! LBVS šš

And weāre back! Day 8 of Black Music Month, Iām sharing songs about sensuality. Feeling sensual is human. As Black women, our sensuality has often been weaponized, warped and defined by everyone else but US. Today, Iām celebrating a reclaiming of what is ours. Something sacred. Something beautiful. Day 5 of Black Music Month, Iām sharing songs about confidence!
Day 4 of Black Music Month, Iām sharing songs about exhaustion. Some days you wake up tired before the day even starts. These songs speak to that feeling in some way.
On Day 3 of Black Music Month, Iām sharing songs about hope. I donāt know about you, but the weight of the world is feeling incredibly heavy, and Iām holding on to every ounce of hope that I have!
On June 1st, the first day of Pride Month, Indiana Gov. Mike Braun signed a proclamation declaring June āNuclear Family Month,ā defining family as āone husband, one wife, and any children.ā The timing is no coincidence.
The proclamation pathologizes every family structure that falls outside of what Braun claims Hoosiers define as the nuclear family. The language that communities āmust compensate with expensive, inferior approachesā when families deviate from this definition is stigma being further perpetuated and disgustingly written into official government record.
The research on family outcomes is far more nuanced than this proclamation suggests. What the data actually shows is that children thrive in environments characterized by stability, safety, consistent attachment, and emotional attunement; none of which are exclusive to a two-parent, biological, heterosexual household. Legislating a singular family structure as āGodās designā and framing every other configuration as societal breakdown increases shame in families that already carry disproportionate psychological burden due to systemic marginalization.
Shame is not a protective factor. It is a risk factor. And for LGBTQ+ folks who already face significantly elevated rates of depression, anxiety, and suicidality, proclamations like this one have measurable mental health consequences. Same-gender loving families are not a policy problem to be solved. They are families deserving of dignity, safety, and affirmation. Full-stop.
