Inflamed skin 🥵 Dealing with a compromised skin barrier is a common concern, and the first step is simplifying your skincare routine. Remember, less is often more in such cases! * Gentle Cleanser: Opt for a cleanser that won’t leave your skin feeling tight or dry after use. * Skip Actives: Put a pause on all active ingredients like exfoliants, retinols, and AHA’s. While these are beneficial in skincare, they can be too potent for compromised skin, potentially causing more irritation, breakouts, and further damage to the skin barrier. * Moisturizer: Keep it simple with a moisturizer rich in nourishing ingredients to boost skin hydration and strengthen the skin barrier. And, always remember the importance of protection - daily sunscreen is essential to shield your skin from harmful UV rays! 🤍 #esthetician #frederickesthetician #frederick #frederickmd #skincare #organicskincare #cleanskincare #facials #skincaretips #sknfitbymarissa

Estheticians get breakouts too 🙄 Yes, I suffer with breakouts. My problem area is my chin and jawline when it’s close to my period. Hormonal acne typically forms on the lower part of your face. This includes the bottom of your cheeks and around your jawline. The ways I manage these breakouts are by keeping a consistent skincare routine and paying attention to lifestyle factors such as sleep, stress, drinking lots of water, and limiting my dairy and sugar.

That’s a big no no! A makeup wipe is not a facial cleanser! Makeup wipes do not CLEANSE the skin. They simply remove your makeup for the top most layer of skin. If used incorrectly, or for a prolonged period, makeup wipes can even irritate your skin. Please wash your face! 🫧

Five things to avoid after getting a facial: •Stay out of direct sunlight as you’ll be more photosensitive and can easily burn •Working out can reactive exfoliants used, which can cause a reaction on the skin. Heavy sweating will push out skincare that was used in the treatment and waste all the work your esthetician did to your skin •Wearing heavy makeup can suffocate the skin and clog and pores that have just been cleansed •Your esthetician already did a deep pore cleanse and extractions. No need to pick or touch, just allow your skin to heal •Avoid waxing or facial hair removal on the face that has just been exfoliated - lifting and irritation can occur.

I know, we all love Prime Day! Amazon is great for having literally anything we need within a matter of hours to a few days at our doorstep. The one thing I ask my clients not to buy on Amazon is their skincare and hair care products. Not only are you putting your skin health at risk, you’re almost certainly wasting your money on fake products. . . Always turn to your local esthetician, med spa, plastic surgery office, dermatologist, skin professional, and hair stylist for what is best for you.

Consistency is key when it comes to taking care of your skin and creating a routine. Persistence and patience will pay off in the end. . . This client right here has been consistent about regular skincare treatments for years. Throughout the years, I have seen her tone and texture, pore appearance, and discoloration improve. It takes time and dedication but it does pay off!
