📚 Black History Month Series: Hair, Science, Healing & Legacy 💫 🌱 ✨ 🖤 🧪

Today, let’s talk about Black salons and barbershops. These spaces have always been more than places to get your hair done. They have been safe spaces, classrooms and therapy sessions. They are where stories are shared, confidence is built, and generations connect.

For many of us, the salon was where we learned to love our hair. It was where aunties, stylists, and barbers poured into us. It was where we were reminded that we are beautiful, worthy, and powerful.

These spaces are sacred. They are part of our history and our healing. 👑🖤

🎤✨ Allow me to officially introduce myself to the world as a professional

I don’t just do hair.
I don’t just do kids’ hair.
I’m not just a braider.

I’m a Licensed Natural Hair Care Specialist, Holistic Trichologist, and Herbalist.
A “hair doctor” literally. 💁🏾‍♀️

I study the scalp, diagnose the root, and treat hair from the inside out using science, health, and holistic care. I don’t mask problems. I solve them. I don’t style damage. I restore crowns. 👑 💪🏾

This image, created by ChatGPT, captured all of me in my calling perfectly.

And I’m not even done yet.
Wait until you see how I bring everything together 👩🏽‍⚕️👑 💉 🧪 🧴 🩺 🫀 🥼 🌱 💫

📚 Black History Month Series: Hair, Science, Healing & Legacy 💫 🌱 ✨ 🖤 🧪

As we continue this series, I want to pivot today toward something deeply important and personal. While we often talk about history and outside influences, we also have to look at what happens inside our own homes, especially the words and energy given toward our children’s hair.

Hair bullying does not always start at school. Sometimes, it begins at home without us even realizing it. The words we use about our children’s hair can shape how they see themselves for a lifetime. Terms like “nappy” are no longer needed in our vocabulary. Our children’s kinks and coils are beautiful, powerful, and scientifically designed to thrive.

As mothers and caregivers, it is important to take time to learn your child’s hair type and texture. Make hair care fun. Allow them to help. Create space for bonding, not rushing. Carve out time so wash day feels like love, not stress.

If frustration shows up, it is often not about the child. It comes from not yet knowing the right techniques or products. And that is okay. Ask questions. Learn. Grow.

Our children deserve to feel proud of their crowns from day one. Let us raise confident kings and queens who love their natural beauty. 👑🖤

Can you imagine needing a law or a bill passed just to wear your hair the way it naturally grows from your scalp?!

This is The CROWN Act.

The CROWN Act protects individuals from discrimination based on natural hairstyles like locs, braids, twists, and Afros in schools and workplaces, promoting fairness, inclusion, and respect. ✊🏾

Our hair is more than beauty. It reflects history, science, identity, and resilience.

📚 Black History Month Series: Hair, Science, Healing & Legacy 💫 🌱 ✨ 🖤🧪

Madam C. J. Walker was a trailblazing hairstylist and pioneer in Black hair care who transformed the way Black women cared for their crowns. Through her hands on experience, she understood the importance of scalp health, cleanliness, and proper maintenance long before it became mainstream. She developed techniques, treatments, and education programs that taught women how to nurture their natural hair and protect it from damage. As one of the first to professionalize Black hair care, she elevated hairstyling into a respected skill and career path. Her work laid the foundation for modern Black cosmetology and continues to inspire stylists and hair care professionals today. 🪮 🌱 💪🏾

📚 Black History Month Series: Hair, Science, Healing & Legacy 💫 🌱 ✨ 🖤 🧪

During slavery, some Africans braided maps and seeds into their hair to help guide escape and survival.
The seeds were meant to plant, grow, and nourish life in freedom.
Our hair has always been a tool of resilience and resistance. 💪🏾🌱 💫

Our hair is more than just a style…it’s culture, resilience, creativity, and legacy. From ancestral traditions to modern-day care, we’ll explore how our crowns tell our stories and deserve intentional love.

This series is about education, empowerment, and celebrating the beauty and brilliance of textured hair in every form. Let’s learn, heal, and grow together, one strand at a time. 🖤👑
