What You See vs. What I Eat

Portion control sounds simple, but where do you start?

For me, it's the Rule of 3:

πŸ₯© 3 fingers of protein
πŸ₯¦ 3 handfuls of vegetables
πŸ₯‘ 3 tablespoons of healthy fat

The best part? No scales, no measuring cups, and no calorie counting. Just use your own handsβ€”because your hands are sized for your body.

It's a simple way to build balanced meals, stay satisfied longer, and make healthy eating feel a lot less complicated.

Do you use hand portions, meal prep, calorie tracking, or just listen to your hunger cues? πŸ‘‡

3 types of kale
Basil
Oregano
Parsley
Tomatoes πŸ…
And then we added
Onions πŸ§…
Peppers 🌢
Mushrooms πŸ„
And hamburger πŸ”

πŸ† Eggplant: Yes or No for You?

Eggplant is a YES for me when it comes to nutrition!

Why it's worth adding to your plate:

βœ… Low in calories but filling
βœ… Rich in fiber to support digestion and fullness
βœ… Contains antioxidants that help protect your cells from damage
βœ… Provides vitamins and minerals like potassium, manganese, and folate
βœ… May help support heart health as part of a balanced diet

One of its most powerful antioxidants is nasunin, found in the deep purple skin. That's a good reason not to peel it!

Try it roasted, grilled, air-fried, or added to soups and casseroles.

What about you? Do you love eggplant, hate it, or have you never tried it? πŸ†πŸ‘‡

πŸ₯¬ One simple change I would recommend? Add dark leafy greens to your plate every day.

Spinach, kale, collard greens, arugula, and Swiss chard are packed with vitamins, minerals, antioxidants, and fiber that support your heart, brain, bones, and digestive health.

You don't need a huge salad either. Add a handful to your eggs, smoothie, soup, stir-fry, or dinner plate.

Small daily habits create big long-term results. πŸ’š

What's your favorite way to eat dark leafy greens? πŸ‘‡πŸ₯—

Mary Mary Quite Contrary how does your garlic grow? πŸ§„

In my flower bed of course🌸

Flowers are pretty but you can't eat most of them. Why not grow pretty things that you can actually eat. Garlic is beautiful!

Mindful Eating: A Simple Habit That Can Change Everything

In a world full of distractions, many of us eat on autopilot. We eat while scrolling, driving, working, or watching TVβ€”and often finish a meal without really tasting it.

Mindful eating is about slowing down and paying attention.

βœ… Eat without distractions when possible
βœ… Take smaller bites and chew thoroughly
βœ… Notice flavors, textures, and aromas
βœ… Check in with your hunger and fullness cues
βœ… Enjoy your food without guilt

When you eat mindfully, you're more likely to recognize when you're satisfied, appreciate your meals, and avoid overeating.

The goal isn't perfectionβ€”it's awareness.

What's one thing you can do today to be more mindful at mealtime? πŸ½οΈπŸ’š

🫐 Did You Know? Freezing Blueberries Make Some Antioxidants More Available!

When blueberries are frozen and then thawed, ice crystals can break down some of the plant's cell walls. This can make certain antioxidants, especially anthocyanins (the compounds that give blueberries their deep blue color), easier for your body to access.

The good news? Frozen blueberries are still incredibly nutritious and are often frozen shortly after harvest, helping preserve many of their nutrients.

Whether you enjoy them fresh, frozen, or thawed, blueberries are packed with fiber, vitamins, and powerful antioxidants that support overall health.

Team Fresh or Team Frozen? How do you like your blueberries? πŸ«πŸ‘‡

🀒 LOOK AT MY APPLE!

Organic Matters 🍎

Ever notice how some conventionally grown apples can sit on the counter for weeks and still look perfect?

Many are coated or treated to help extend shelf life and reduce spoilage during storage and transport. Sometimes the outside can still look great while the inside starts to soften or break down first.

While all apples eventually spoil, choosing organic when possible can reduce your exposure to certain synthetic pesticides and post-harvest

Do you buy organic apples, conventional apples, or a mix of both? 🍏🍎

Foods That May Help With Crepey Skin as We Age

Crepey skin is often linked to a loss of collagen, elastin, hydration, and muscle mass. While no food can completely reverse it, certain foods can support healthier skin from the inside out.

Simple Daily Goal

Aim for:

25–35 grams of protein per meal

A serving of berries daily

Fatty fish 2–3 times per week

Plenty of colorful vegetables

Adequate water throughout the day

The combination of high protein, vitamin C, healthy fats, resistance training, and sun protection tends to have the biggest impact on maintaining skin quality as we age.
