It's been a while since my last batch of tallow face cream—I've been focused on getting our house ready to list, so things have been extra busy! Making this cream is truly a labor of love and a multi-step process that takes about 10 days from start to finish.
One common question I get is about the natural beefy scent that can come through since tallow is rendered from beef fat. I experimented with using baking soda in one batch to neutralize the odor, but I found it altered the formulation slightly and made the cream feel a bit drying on the skin, even though it was still moisturizing overall. I wasn't happy with that change, so I've decided to skip the baking soda entirely this time.
Instead, I'm taking extra care with multiple salt water baths during the rendering and purification process. This method helps draw out impurities and reduce the beefy smell more gently, without affecting the cream's nourishing properties. It does add more time and steps, but I believe it's the best way to keep the final product as pure, effective, and skin-friendly as possible.

I've attached a few photos showing the progress so far I'll share more as I move through the whipping and final stages!

When I say these are cage, free eggs I do mean they are cage free! When I went to pick up my three dozen eggs (they had so many there) I saw a few eggs that were laid right next to the containers 😜. If you’re looking for the best fresh eggs and milk, plus chicken, pork and beef please check out Bartl Homestead. Contact them right away because when this freeze comes in those hens won’t be laying many Eggs.
