This color transformation really is one for the books, for me personally.
If you look to the right you can see the starting canvas, very dark natural base, lots of grown out highlights… I went through and gave her some foils, kept them fine, feathered, and teased, blah blah blah. Fast forward, NO ROOT TAP/SMUDGE/SHADOW/NOTHING, and you have chocolate, caramel, chestnut, snickers bar (???) goodness to send this young lady off to study abroad. She’ll be back in June for maintenance.

Going darker for the fall? 🍂
Lowlights and/or root melts can be a great alternative to an all over color for all of these reasons 👇🏼
1. It’ll create a softer, less shocking transition from light to dark.
2. You can add the depth you’re craving while keeping dimension so that your end result doesn’t feel dull or “flat” and instead looks rich, especially in the sunlight!
3. You don’t have to be fully committed to the dark side, especially if you like to switch things up from season to season. This will give you versatility and a much easier canvas to work with when you want to go back lighter!
