The biggest mistake I made in my 24 years as a holistic esthetician…

I spent years believing I couldn’t give myself a facial massage.

Turns out I was completely wrong.

Clients would often ask me,
“Do you give yourself facials?”

I’d tell them,

“Only to a point. I can cleanse, exfoliate, do extractions, apply a mask, and moisturize… but I can’t really give myself the best part—the facial massage.”

I truly believed that for years.

Then I trained in Gua Sha facial massage, and it completely changed the way I approached caring for my own skin. As I continued learning lymphatic drainage and facial reflexology, I became more and more confident giving myself facial massages. I also realized how necessary it is.

I couldn’t believe what I’d been missing.

Is it exactly the same as having someone else give a you a facial?

No.

But it’s still relaxing, it’s become one of my favorite parts of my skincare routine, and I genuinely look forward to my morning and evening skincare ritual.

If you’ve been skipping facial massage because you think it isn’t worth doing on yourself, don’t make the same mistake I did.

If you’d like me to teach you exactly how I give myself a facial massage, let me know in the comments. If enough people are interested, I may create something special that walks you through it step by step.

After 24 years as a holistic esthetician, these are all the things I refuse to buy anymore...

Oil cleanser, toner, moisturizer, facial oil, exfoliator, body butter, magnesium infused body butter, lip butter, vitamin c, aromatherapy scent, deodorant, oil pulling, toothpaste, bug spray, cleaning solution… and that’s not even everything!

* I’ve spent 24 years learning about ingredients and skin, and that knowledge has changed the way I shop.
* I don’t make everything because I’m trying to be perfect—I make these things because I enjoy knowing exactly what’s in them.
* I believe simple, thoughtfully chosen ingredients can often be enough.
* Not everyone needs to make their own products, but everyone can benefit from becoming a more informed consumer.
* Every product I make is one less product with a long list of ingredients I can’t pronounce.
* This journey started with skincare but eventually spilled over into many other areas of my home.

These are the three non-negotiable products I’d recommend if you want a simple, effective skincare routine:

✨ Oil cleanser
✨ Exfoliator
✨ Facial oil

That’s it!

If you want to keep your routine simple while still giving your skin what it needs, you don’t have to overcomplicate it.

If you have no routine start with this!

As we get older, having a consistent skincare routine becomes more important. It may not seem like it now, but neglecting your skin eventually catches up with you.

If I had to keep it simple, I’d focus on just three things:

* Cleanse your skin every night. (Twice a day is ideal, but if you only do it once, make it before bed.)
* Hydrate your skin daily.
* Exfoliate once a week.

Those three habits alone can make a big difference over time.

Oil cleansing is changing the game! If you feel like your cleanser, just isn’t cutting it anymore and you’re open to trying something new I highly recommend oil cleansing! And this is not just for dehydrated, dry skin. This is actually for all skin types, including acne and oily skin. Just try it! You’ll thank me later!

All products aren’t created equally so if you need a recommendation for an oil cleanser, check out the website link in my bio.

Things I would NEVER put on my skin as a holistic esthetician of 24 years…

Here’s the list…

1. Artificial fragrance (Parfum)

2. Synthetic ingredients

3. Mineral oil or petroleum-based products

4. Products with a long list of ingredients you can’t read or understand

5. Harsh Alcohols (there’s a big difference between different alcohols)

6. Harsh sulfates

7. Formaldehyde-releasing preservatives

—> Your skin is your largest organ. Everything you put on your skin absorbs into your bloodstream.
—> They age your skin faster.
—> They create allergies in different ways and that can look differently to everyone. Most people don’t even realize the side effects that are happening because they’re not making the connection.
—> They are endocrine-disrupters, creating havoc on your hormones

“Your skin is absorbing much of what you put on it. That’s why I choose ingredients that support my skin and my immune system instead of constantly fighting against it.”

Things I do for my skin as a holistic esthetician of 24 years…

•Have a morning and nighttime skincare routine ~that includes giving myself facial massages
•Cupping
•Give myself facials
•Relight therapy
•Sauna
•Lymphatic drainage
•Stretching my fascia
•Microdermabrasion
•Peels & enzyme peels
•Dermaroller & Microneedling
•Microcurrent
•Acupuncture

My morning and nighttime routine along with my facial massage is a given every single day. Additionally, I will add one or two other things from this list to either my morning or nighttime routine. Self-care is important to me and creating a routine and maintenance is the best way to see the best results.

Why I don’t recommend sunscreen all day, everyday anymore…

Let me explain!

I was trained by the skincare industry that we need sunscreen everyday, all day, all year round. I learned a few years ago, that’s not true and it’s all about marketing! I know I’m sorry to tell you that’s the sad truth.

The truth is.. repetitive use of a chemical sunscreen is what actually increases your chances of skin cancer, and prevents you from absorbing vitamin D naturally from the sun. One of the most important nutrients for our health. The sun is great for us! In moderation.

This is what I focus on…

I pay attention to when the UV is 5 or higher. Which is usually midday. Depending on where you live in the world this will only be certain seasons of the year and not all around.

So if your goal is to absorb vitamin D naturally and efficiently. You want to be outside for a short period of time in the highest UV of the day.

Timing depends on your skin tone. The lighter you are the faster you absorb vitamin D which means you only need a few minutes. The darker you are the longer it takes for you to absorb vitamin D. For the darkest skin tone you can be in the sun without any sunscreen for up to an hour.

Now let’s say I’m going to be in the sun for an extended period of time.
•I only apply sunscreen if the UV is 5 or higher
•I’ve exposed my skin for about 30 minutes to absorb vitamin D naturally
•Only then will I apply a physical sunscreen
•Or if I have the option, I will get into the shade or go indoors

Did you know this already? I’m sure for many this probably sounds unheard of. I know so many people are afraid of the sun or deem the sun as bad. The sun gives everything life. The sun is healing in many ways, in moderation.
