This topic has been heavy on my heart for years. Weekend after weekend we style bridal parties and receive requests for down-styles from folks who are either unfamiliar with the humid climate in Virginia or who are simply not grasping what wet heat plus 10 hours of activity can do to their hair. A talented stylist with a well-packed kit can do a lot of incredible things to hair, but we are not magicians.

We cannot restate this enough:

➡️ ”More hairspray” does not “make it stay” - in fact, it weighs your hair down and makes it sticky & frizzy

➡️ A “soft curl” become a nearly straight stringy mess within hours on an 89-degree, 85%-humidity day

➡️ Your hair would look even more lovely up and off your neck than it would down and stuck to your sweaty back at 6pm

We want your hair to be just as stunning at 9am as it is while you dance it out at 9pm!

And that’s where booking artists who won’t just nod and say “sure!” is so important. We’ll advise you on how we expect your type, length, volume, and style of hair to act, we’ll show up day-of with the weather forecast memorized, we’ll have an arsenal of tried & true AND trendy styles on-hand, and we’ll consider all aspects of your day (like timing, weather, indoor/outdoor nature of your venue, neckline of your dress, etc) to make sure you’re looking and feeling your best!

Here we are…10 years. It has equally flown by and crawled past. Operating this business has been extraordinarily beautiful and horribly painful, wonderfully rewarding and wildly anxiety-inducing, and overall, the adventure of a lifetime. The decennial was MY year, the year I had my moment becoming a bride after waiting, praying, hoping, and staying faithful for many, many years. What a sense of humor God has! On March 19th, a year to the date that we began dating, I was blessed to have my man kneel down and ask me to be his partner for life. My wish came true!

I became Mrs. Hanson 4 months later on August 3rd, 2025 after a whirlwind planning adventure (10/10 do not recommend planning a wedding in 4 months), and we jetted off to a fairytale honeymoon, relaxing in the Mexican sun!

We returned to our new apartment (literally signed the lease 3 weeks prior) and split time each week between my home & studio in Richmond and our new home in Hampton where my husband works. It was so tough to make that transition, but we finally began living together in our little place in December when I officially moved out of Richmond and closed the studio. Many tears were shed before, during, and after that move, and I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t still grieving the loss of my space and studio clients (especially my special fairy hair folks), but it has been sweet to finally be together after 1.5yrs of long-distance.

In 2025, I worked 44 weddings and technically my own (I did my makeup and my mom’s because she’s too picky 😉) and finished out my senior clientele with , a long-time partnership that I still miss very much!

Lots of makeup lessons were booked this year which I absolutely love doing as it places beauty back in the hands of everyday women who want to dress up or dress down without having to rely on social media marketing ploys or some influencer trying to make a buck on a brand. It allows them to learn the basics and then adjust those skills to best suit their occasion and comfortability!

OUR 10-YEAR ANNIVERSARY COUNTDOWN

The year I met my husband! We began chatting on Hinge mid-January (he was based in Norfolk, me in Richmond), and we met up for our first date in Short Pump. The 2hr-trek back and forth was tough, but it helped us move intentionally and carefully as we began to fall in love.

In 2024, I was feeling incredibly burnt out within the wedding industry…I still loved the art & vision of it all, but I was discouraged with the volume of work and personality types I encountered. This year we accomplished 36 weddings and a few small elopements along with dozens of high school senior portraits, bo***ir shoots, makeup lessons, and engagement sessions!

Doing bo***ir shoots more frequently excited me…they’ve always been a favorite, seeing a woman blossom in front of the camera and express herself confidently with glamorous hair & makeup.

I picked up a super part-time job at DryBar in early January to keep me active in the slow winter months, and I loved learning about blowouts, but due to the repetitive blowdryer & brush usage, my wrist and shoulder pain flared up again, and I had to restart prolotherapy shots in DC. I subsequently left the job in July and focused on healing my body again.

Highlights of the year included: finding love again, babysitting my adorable nephew, doing a solo trip to Nevada, Utah, & Arizona, going abroad to Costa Rica with my boyfriend and his friends, doing a surprise day-trip to NYC, creating a “Disney Princess: Bride Edition” series of makeovers on friends and strangers, meeting some of the dearest brides including glamming my friend for her special day, and celebrating my brother’s graduation from physicians assistant school.
