Finding a stylist who is the right fit can be difficult.
If you’re someone who has trouble verbalizing, or describing, what they want pictures are always great to have on hand before you get to your appointment. It’s especially essential that you have a picture(s) that represents what you want, not what you don’t want. Little tweaks are ok like, “I like the layers but not the bangs.” Photos that represent more than an inch or two difference than what you want can give a very different look and feel to the cut.
If you feel like you can never find someone who does your hair right, it’s never a good idea to just sit in a strangers chair and say “I don’t know what I want. Do what you think is best.” It’s an unfair test for the stylist to try to read your mind, and a sure fire way to be disappointed or dissatisfied when you leave the salon. Unless you are someone who likes the adventure of a new style or trying out different things you might not have thought of, stick with what you know you’re comfortable with, especially when trying to find a new stylist.
Tips for finding a stylist:
•you want someone who listens to you. You tell them to take off an inch they take off an inch.
•You want someone who suggests proper care and maintenance for your hair. You tell them to take off an inch but you really need three for the hair to be healthy and they bring that to your attention, but cut only what you permit.

I have done hair (originally) since I was about 10 years old, starting out cutting my own hair. I moved to coloring friends’ hair when I was 14 years old and finally went to cosmetology school when I was 21. That puts me being in the business side of this wonderful industry for 23 years.
