Saponification was probably discovered by accident.

Imagine this…

Thousands of years ago, someone was rendering animal fat over an open fire. As the fire burned, ash found its way into the warm fat.

That ash contained alkaline substances that reacted with the fat—and soap was born.

That chemical reaction is called saponification, and it’s the same basic process we use today to turn fats and oils into soap.

Pretty cool that a little ash + fat + fire may have been the beginning of something we still make thousands of years later. 🧼.

Not because we think everyone needs to make the same choices we do, but because over time we’ve become much more intentional about what we bring into our home, what we use on our bodies, and the ingredients we’re exposed to every day.

Here are four swaps we’ve made:

🌿 Artificially scented car air fresheners
We don’t need our car smelling like “Mountain Breeze” when it can just… smell like a car. We choose naturally scented alternatives and essential oils instead of synthetic fragrance.

🪥 Fluoride toothpaste
We’ve personally chosen to use fluoride-free toothpaste and pay much closer attention to the ingredients in our oral care products.

🌿 Aluminum-based deodorants
We choose aluminum-free deodorant and look for simpler ingredient lists when it comes to products we use every day.

🧴 Conventional shampoo + conditioner
This one was a big switch for us. We use shampoo and conditioner bars made with thoughtfully selected ingredients instead of conventional liquid hair care.

And honestly, this is exactly why we started Dandelion Naturals. We wanted products that are simple, functional, effective, and made with ingredients we feel good about using.

We’re not about perfection around here. We’re about making better choices where we can—and finding products that actually WORK. 🌿
