When SNAP funding is delayed, people donât just lose benefits â they lose safety.
Food insecurity is one of the MOST overlooked roots of eating disorders.
Because when access to food becomes uncertain, the body learns to survive by controlling, restricting, or rationing â long before words like ârecoveryâ or âdiagnosisâ ever enter the picture.
And when government shutdowns pause benefits, millions of nervous systems re-enter survival mode overnight.
Thatâs not a lack of willpower â thatâs policy.
This is why eating disorders are deeply political.
Because healing isnât just about whatâs on your plate.
Itâs about whether you have consistent access to food in the first place.
If youâre feeling helpless, start local.
Support looks like community, not perfection:
đ Donate or volunteer at a local food pantry
đ Check in on friends and neighbors quietly struggling
đĽ Use your platform (even if small) to share resources
For those in Central Indiana, here are a few places to start:
(accepting donations for Gleaners!)
Because every body deserves access â not scarcity â when systems fail.

Hereâs the wild thing about body image: itâs never just been about bodies. I know. Shocker. đ¤Ż
Itâs about power. About politics. About who society decides is valuable at any given moment.
âĄď¸ Wartime? Thin, frail bodies were glorifiedâscarcity looked powerful.
âĄď¸ Economic boom? Curves were inâabundance meant status.
âĄď¸ The â90s? Tech bros + globalization = he**in chic and control.
âĄď¸ Now? Kardashians inflate/deflate, Ozempic headlines trend, âclean girlâ aesthetic reignsâŚall marching in step with capitalism.
None of this is random.
Body ideals have always mirrored sociopolitical trends. And every time they shift, entire industries profit while weâre left spinning in the comparison trap.
So if youâve ever felt like your body is always âbehind,â youâre not failing. The rules were never meant to be won.
⨠Body image reframe for the week: Next time you feel the spiral creep in, pause and askâ âWhose story am I living right now, and do I even want it?â
Because the most rebellious thing you can do might just be: stop playing the game altogether.

Ever taken a photo, immediately zoomed in on your chin/arms/stomach, and decided it was trash? Same. These photos sat on my camera roll for a week because I thought they were âbad.â Now? I love them. Not because I magically look different, but because they remind me why we take photos in the first place.
I used to think the purpose of photos was to prove something â that I looked good, that I looked smaller, that I looked like I had it all together. Maybe you can relate, too?
But later when I looked through them I saw a piece of history â the very first photos taken on our new covered bridge in town (yes, Iâm a nerd for covered bridges). I saw a memory with someone I love. I saw a moment that deserved to be remembered.
And thatâs when it reminded me: the goal of photos isnât to manipulate our bodies into acceptability. The goal is to document our lives.
So I made this carousel as a gentle rebellion against the endless âhow to pose to look smallerâ advice. Because you donât need to contort yourself into someone elseâs beauty standard to be worthy of existing in photos.
Instead, you can:
⨠Smile for real.
⨠Move and play.
⨠Experiment with angles.
⨠Let yourself be seen.
Your future self wonât care if your arm looked bigger than you liked. Sheâll care that youâre actually in the photo â proof that you were there, living, laughing, loving.
đ¸ Save this for the next time youâre tempted to pick apart a picture of yourself. And maybe, just maybe, let the photo be about the memory, not the mirror.

The stories weâve been told about weight, health, and âtransformationâ were never ours to begin with.
They were scripted for TV ratings.
Sold to us as entertainment.
And wrapped in shame.
This week on Stop, Collaborate and Listen with .counseling, we unpacked the documentary "Fit For TV" and talk about what it really means to reclaim your own story. Healing isnât about erasing the past â itâs about weaving resilience, growth, and self-understanding into who you already are.
If youâve ever felt like your worth was tied to a number on a scale, this conversation is for you.
P.s. Thank You .counseling for inviting me for another episode

Kids notice differences. Thatâs normal. The lesson is how we react. If we flinch, shame, or say âdonât comment,â they learn bodies are scary, weird, or wrong.
Instead, I try to teach the little one's in my life that:
â
All bellies are different.
â
Bodies do amazing things â play, hug, eat yummy food.
â
We can notice without shaming.
Have you ever had a kid (or adult) point out something about your body? How did you respond? đ Comment below!

⨠The problem with performing⌠and why itâs exhausting â¨
We spend so much of our lives performing without even realizing it. Sucking in your stomach the second someone walks in the room. Choosing clothes that hide your body instead of the ones you actually like. Refusing to leave the house without a full face of makeup. Avoiding photos like theyâre a crime scene.
All because somewhere along the line, we were taught our worth depends on how we look or how others see us.
Hereâs how to start un-performing:
1ď¸âŁ Notice the little performances â Did you just suck in? Fidget with your outfit? Pause before stepping in front of a camera? Immediately grab a pillow to rest on your stomach when you sat down? Catch it, name it, and breathe.
2ď¸âŁ Do one thing for yourself â Wear that bright top, skip the contour, or post the photo. Just once. See how it feels.
3ď¸âŁ Focus on living > looking â Can you move, eat, laugh, or stretch without thinking about the audience? Practice it small.
4ď¸âŁ Celebrate the small rebellions â Every time you choose comfort, honesty, or presence over perfection, youâre reclaiming your life from the performance.
Your life isnât a stage. Your body isnât a prop. Stop performing and start livingâno audience required. đ

You know when the body neutral girlies tell you,
âJust thank your body for what it can do for youâ? (P.s. I USED to say this same bs).
Yeah⌠love the intention, but thatâs also lowkey ableist.
Because newsflash: not every body can do the things society deems âworthy.â
And also? Your body literally owes you nothing.
It doesnât have to lift heavy, run far, or âcarry you through lifeâs adventuresâ to deserve respect.
It doesnât have to perform, prove, or achieve to earn your love.
Sometimes body respect looks like:
⨠Letting it rest
⨠Feeding it well
⨠Not making it do cartwheels to get your approval
Youâre not a CEO and your body is not your unpaid intern. PERIOD.

There was a time when I couldnât tell the difference between a workout and a punishment.
Between âdisciplineâ and disordered behavior.
Between wellness and full-blown military obedience to the voice in my head.
𫡠âYou ate carbs? Treadmill. Now.â
𫡠âFeeling bloated? Double the pilates.â
𫡠âGained 3 pounds in recovery? Guess whoâs âearning their dinnerâ again?â
It was never about health.
It was about fear. Shame. Control.
Movement wasnât a choice. It was a consequence.
And the worst part?
I thought that was normal.
I thought I was the problem when movement didnât feel âmotivatingâ or âempowering.â
Turns out, movement doesnât have to feel like a hostage negotiation with your body.
It can be gentle. Silly. Sporadic. SWEATY and sacred.
It can look like tennis, stretching, golf, or flailing around during pickleball. (ask me how I know.)
This weekâs newsletter? Itâs the full uncensored story of how I stopped taking orders from the eating disorder and started reclaiming movement for me. đĽ
Comment ânewsletterâ below and Iâll slide into your DMs with the goods.

So⌠apparently you're supposed to get engaged and then immediately start planning how to take up less space?
No thank you. Not this bride. Not this timeline. Not this body. đ
This is your reminder that:
đ You donât need to shrink to be worthy of love
đ You donât have to âearnâ your wedding dress
đ You donât have to spend the months before your wedding in a shame spiral
The real villain isnât your bodyâitâs the system that told you love has a size limit.
Swipe through this pep talk anytime the dress doesnât zip, the photo triggers a spiral, or a well-meaning relative asks if youâre âdoing a plan before the big day.â đ
You are not a before-and-after.
Youâre the whole damn story.
And you look just right in every single frame. đŤ

This is me in a low-rise bikini.
And this is also me bringing my distraction toolkit to the pool like itâs a damn survival mission.
Because yes â this was only my second time wearing one since being in long-term recovery.
Yes â I smiled.
And yes â I also fidgeted, body checked, read my book, played my silly little phone game, and reminded myself that comfort is allowed to be earned in layers.
You can feel proud of yourself and still feel weird.
You can choose the outfit and have backup support plans.
You can enjoy the moment and still have moments.
Healing isnât about pretending you donât care anymore. Itâs about caring for yourself when those loud, old thoughts pop back up.
So bring the damn book. Bring the game. Bring the distraction.
Youâre allowed to make the moment yours. đЎ
