We didn’t want to post anything until we contacted the family first (difficult due to them being overseas), but as many of you already know, the victim in the apartment fire this weekend was an employee here at happy nails, and more than that, a friend to us all. She did not have family in the area, since she is an immigrant from Vietnam like the rest of us, but in our culture we are all family. We refer to each other not as coworkers but as sister and brother. She was a friend to us all, a great employee, and spent a lot of time babysitting and hanging out with little makayla (owners daughter) in the back of the shop and in that very apartment unit we leased for her. We may seem a little quiet and not our usual joking selves as we process this loss. We know she is in a better place now. The owners of that apartment complex a good friends. We have had 4 different employees live in that apartment building and never had any problems with the owners. They are wonderful people who care much more about the tenants than any material losses. Any rumors of negligence on behalf of them is exactly that, rumors. They were happy to assist with any issues there at any time.

We lost a dear friend and employee in the fire, another employee lost most of his possessions there, and a long-time friend also lost all of his possessions. If anyone would like donate we will make something available at the shop to take donations and make sure it goes to the people who need it. We are all a little worn out as we spend most of that night standing outside of a burning building that took the life of a friend, and haven’t been able to sleep well since.

She will be missed, and we wish her family the best as navigate through the grieving process themselves.

Happy Nails Customers! We are happy to announce that we have recently undergone some staff changes and believe that our pedicure services will be much better going forward.
• We have started to proactively monitor our Google reviews and Facebook reviews the last few months. This provides us valuable feedback from our community.
• We have also added an updated price list which is now displayed on a large poster inside the shop to avoid any confusion on prices.
• Staff has been talked to about many of the issues we have seen mentioned in our comment section.

• We also want to dispel any rumors that we don’t get along with other salons in town. This is news to us 😂. Our owner worked at Nail design for 15 years and even trained the owner there how to do nails. One of our employees also previously worked at Nail Design, 2 of our other employees worked in escanaba before and we are close friends with the owners there as well. We consider Nail Design a sister shop. We have the same products, procedures, and roughly the same prices. We communicate with them and the owners have children together. We both wish for each others success. We also hear great things about many of the smaller shops in town like Hoskings, and Salon 323. No matter where people go around here, they can rest assured they’re going to get great service and great nails from any of the local shops. Being a shop that employs 5-7 nail techs means we occasionally have issues with a specific nail tech, and we now work harder than ever to make sure we resolve issues and make staff changes when necessary. This is a small town, we have lived here for decades, our children go to school here, and we are active in the community. We want everyone to leave our shop happy. If your not happy, leave a polite comment and we WILL do our best to fix problems whenever we can.
