🚩 THINGS I DO NOT AGREE WITH (COMING FROM A PROFESSIONAL LOCTICIAN)

🚩 Getting a retwist every 3+ months consistently
Your locs need maintenance too! Waiting too long can contribute to excessive new growth, matting, and THINNING.

🚩 Washing your locs every 2+ months
Your scalp is skin, it needs to be cleansed regularly. 🧼 Healthy locs start with a healthy scalp! You should be washing 1-2 times a month.

🚩 Keeping a style in for weeks or until your next retwist
Cute style ≠ healthy style if it’s left in too long. Prolonged tension and buildup can put stress on your roots or hair. Take that style out after 2 weeks.

🚩 Coloring your locs without a treatment plan
Color can be beautiful, but your locs need EXTRA love afterward. 💕 Moisture, hydration, strengthening, and proper maintenance matter.

🚩 Only using oil to “moisturize” your locs
Oil seals! It doesn’t provide the hydration your locs need. 💦 Think HYDRATE first, SEAL second. You need a hydrating mist as well.

✨ Your locs don’t just need to look good — they need to BE healthy.

Save this for your next loc appointment! 🫶🏽

Y’all… 😂 I’m saying this with LOVE because I really want y’all to understand how important communication is when you’re reaching out to a stylist for the first time.

Please don’t just text “How much?”, “You got anything tomorrow?” or just “Yo” 😭😭

We need a little more information!

Remember, you’re contacting a PROFESSIONAL. Just like you expect us to communicate with you respectfully, we appreciate the same energy in return. And honestly, giving us more information upfront helps us help YOU!

Tell us what service you’re interested in, a little about your hair, what you’re wanting done, and when you’re looking to come in. If you’re unsure what to book, THAT’S OKAY TOO! Just say that. We can guide you.

And before somebody says, “Well, they should know what I mean!” , we are stylists, not mind readers. 😂

Here’s a little template you can copy & paste when reaching out to a new stylist:

“Hi! My name is ____. I’m interested in booking ____. I currently have ____ and I’m looking to achieve ____. I was wondering what your availability is and what I would need to book. Thank you!”

Simple. Respectful. Clear. 💕

And stylists… This applies to us too! Let’s make sure we’re creating an experience where clients feel comfortable asking questions and getting the information they need. 🤎

Communication goes BOTH ways. Let’s do better on both sides!

🎉 ONE YEAR OF ASHLEE’S LOC JOURNEY! 🤎✨

I started these extra small locs on Ashlee ONE YEAR AGO, and BABYYYY… look at them now! 😍

Ashlee has been such a consistent, amazing, sweet, and genuinely wonderful client to have in my chair. Her spirit is beautiful, her energy is always good, AND she has taken such great care of her locs throughout this entire journey.

And can we talk about these locs?! 👀 The growth, the maturity, the neatness, the way they’re developing… I LOVE seeing my work grow out and evolve! 🤎

Started with extra small two strand starter locs → 6 month mark → YEAR ONE! 🌱✨

Current loc count: 147

Ashlee, thank you for trusting me with your crown from DAY ONE and for being such a beautiful part of my journey as a loctician. 🥹🤎

Here’s to many more years of healthy, beautiful locs! 🥂✨

🚨 Thinking about restarting your locs? Here’s when you may actually need to consider it:

• Severe thinning: When almost all of your locs are becoming too thin at the root and struggling to support its own weight.

• Constant breakage: If your locs are repeatedly snapping or breaking, the hair may be too compromised to continue safely.

• Chemical damage: Over-bleaching or overprocessing can weaken the hair so much that it can’t maintain the loc properly.

• Severe matting: If the roots have become extremely tangled or merged and separating them would cause more damage. (Depends on how the matting is. This goes case by case)

But PLEASE remember: frizz, shrinkage, or a little thinning doesn’t automatically mean you need to restart. Some locs can be repaired or reconstructed. 🤎

Healthy hair and a healthy scalp should always come before holding onto length.
