Feeling a bit sad today.
I go back to chemo on Tuesday. The strange thing is that right now I feel healthy. If you saw me walking down the street, you might never know how sick I am.
This photo is one of my favorites. Just a mom enjoying a sweet treat with her kids. Looking at it, would you know cancer was already growing inside me? I didn’t. Months later I would be rushed into emergency surgery and my life would change forever.
For over 2⅓ years now, I have been living with colon cancer that spread to my lungs. I’ve had two surgeries, more than 20 rounds of chemotherapy, radiation, pain, heartache, sleepless nights, fear, and more difficult moments than I can count.
But I’ve also had beautiful days.
Days filled with love from my husband, my children, family, friends, and even complete strangers. Days where I felt lucky just to breathe, laugh, enjoy a cup of coffee, watch my kids grow, or simply feel well for a while.
Cancer is miserable. If you’ve lived it, you know. If you’ve watched a child, spouse, parent, family member, or friend go through it, you know. The treatments are hard. The side effects are hard. The uncertainty is hard.
Sometimes there isn’t much people can do to take the cancer away, but there are things that help.
Be a friend.
Make a phone call.
Send a message.
Check in.
Drop off a coffee.
Bring a blanket, a book, a meal, a plant, or simply a smile.
You don’t have to know what to say. Most of the time we don’t want to talk about cancer anyway. We just want a few moments where we can forget about it.
That is why awareness matters.
Get the colonoscopy.
Get the mammogram.
Make the appointment if something feels off.
Advocate for yourself.
Early detection saves lives.
My goal is to advocate for colon cancer screening beginning at age 45 in Quebec, just as Ontario has already done. If we can save even one life, it is worth the fight.
I have no time to waste.
That’s why I am asking for your help today.
Please call 514-987-2222.

Leave a message asking the Montreal Gazette to cover my story and the importance of early detection awareness.
It takes less than a minute. It costs nothing. But it could help save lives.
Please make the call today and comment DONE when you’re finished so we can see the power of this community.
And to any news outlet reading this, I am available Wednesday for interviews. I can travel if needed, even while receiving chemotherapy. I’ll have a needle in my chest with the chemo infusion running, but I will still be there because awareness cannot wait. There are lives that could be saved through earlier detection, and I have no time to waste.
Please share this far and wide. Not for me, but for the people who have not been diagnosed yet. The people who might be saved by hearing this message in time.
Together, let’s make some noise. Together, let’s save lives.
