Your skin barrier works hard to protect your skin and lock in moisture. When it becomes compromised, you may notice dryness, sensitivity, irritation, redness, or breakouts.

A few common habits can make it harder for your skin to recover:

Skipping sunscreen:
Daily SPF helps protect your skin from UV damage, premature aging, and hyperpigmentation. This is one step that should stay consistent, even on cloudy days.

Skimping on the water:
Drinking enough water supports your body from within, while a well-formulated moisturizer helps keep hydration in the skin.

Foaming or high-pH cleansers:
Some cleansers can be too stripping, especially for dry or sensitive skin. A gentle cleanser that protects your skin’s natural barrier can help prevent that tight, uncomfortable feeling after a cleanse.

Over-exfoliating:
Exfoliation can be beneficial, but more is not always better. Exfoliating too frequently can cause irritation. Your skin needs time to recover and renew in between exfoliations.

Layering multiple actives:
Retinol, acids, vitamin C, and other active ingredients can all have their personal space in your skincare routine, but using too many at once can be overwhelming. Sometimes, simplifying your routine is exactly what your skin needs.
