Think this is “just what happens” when you wear braids? Think again.
The buildup you’re seeing isn’t just a cosmetic concern—it can be a sign that your scalp needs attention.
When wearing protective styles such as braids, twists, or locs, your scalp still produces:
• Natural oils (sebum)
• Sweat
• Dead skin cells
• Environmental debris
• Product buildup
When this isn’t removed regularly, it can contribute to:
✨ Itching
✨ Flaking
✨ Inflammation
✨ Odor
✨ Follicle congestion
✨ Increased shedding
✨ A scalp environment that isn’t ideal for healthy hair growth
Protective styles should protect your hair—not your buildup.
In most cases, I recommend cleansing the scalp about every 7-10 days, even while wearing braids. There are safe ways to cleanse the scalp without ruining your style, and doing so helps maintain a healthier scalp environment.
If you’re experiencing persistent flaking, excessive buildup, itching, or irritation, it may be more than just needing a shampoo. Sometimes these symptoms can also be influenced by internal factors such as nutrition, inflammation, stress, hormones, or overall wellness.

Healing Is More Than a Prescription
I believe medicine has its place. There are times when it is absolutely necessary, and I’m grateful we have it when we need it.
But I also believe healing is about so much more than medication alone.
Our bodies are incredibly designed with the ability to repair, adapt, and recover. While not every condition can be “healed,” there are many ways we can support the body’s natural healing processes and improve overall health.
That may include:
* An anti-inflammatory lifestyle
* Daily movement and exercise
* Better sleep and stress management
* Prayer and faith
* Fasting when appropriate and medically safe
* Nutrition tailored to your individual needs
* Functional Blood Chemistry Analysis (FBCA) to help identify patterns that may benefit from a conversation with your healthcare provider
* Supportive wellness therapies such as scalp care, foot care, red light therapy, or other holistic approaches when appropriate
Too often, people are given a prescription and never ask, “What else can I do to support my health?”
My goal isn’t to replace your physician or tell you to stop taking medications. My goal is to help you become an active participant in your own health journey. Imagine combining the best of modern medicine with healthy lifestyle changes that support your body from the inside out.
Sometimes medication is needed long-term. Sometimes, under the guidance of your healthcare provider, healthier lifestyle habits may allow medications to be reduced. Every person’s journey is different.
I believe God created our bodies with incredible wisdom. When we nourish them, move them, rest them, and care for them well, we’re giving them the best opportunity to function the way they were designed.
If you’ve been wondering whether there are additional ways to support your health, I’d love to help you explore them. Together we can brainstorm practical, evidence-informed lifestyle strategies that complement your medical care—not compete with it.
Healing isn’t about choosing between Western medicine and holistic care.
It’s about building a bridge between them.
Because true wellness often happens when we address the whole person—body, mind, and spirit.

Beauty Should Never Come at the Expense of Nail Health 👣💕(or health in general)
A beautiful toenail isn’t always a healthy toenail.
As a Certified Master Pedicurist (CMP), I see the long-term effects of products that were never designed for the toenail. While acrylics, hard gels, and many traditional toe enhancement products may provide a beautiful cosmetic result, they can also create an environment where moisture becomes trapped, increasing the risk of lifting and making it more difficult to monitor the health of the natural nail.
That’s why I choose NanoFlex® Toenail Restore.
Unlike traditional enhancement products, NanoFlex was developed specifically for toenails. It is the only toenail restoration gel I’m aware of that contains Nano Silver, helping support a cleaner nail environment while providing a flexible, natural-looking restoration. When paired with the appropriate home care, it offers the perfect balance of beauty and wellness.
As a CMP, my goal is never to simply cover a problem—it’s to help protect, restore, and maintain the health of your natural nails while still giving you beautiful results.
Because healthy feet are the foundation of overall wellness.
If you’re wondering which option is best for your feet, I’d love to help.
