A few weeks ago, my oldest friend in the whole wide world, as in we've been friends since Kindergarten, Helena, came across the invitation for my 1998 recording artist showcase.

Talk about a time capsule!

Back then, I was being introduced as one of the newest recording artists from the DMV. That night I performed for a group of label A&R reps, media personalities, community leaders, and friends & family.

As was customary, I killed it. I rarely met a crowd I couldn't rock. 🤷🏽‍♀️😊

Over the months that followed, I had conversations with record labels and radio stations. I gigged a lot. There was genuine interest, and several doors were beginning to open.

I genuinely believed my future would be in the music industry. If you had asked me then where I'd be decades later, I would've described stages, studios, and music videos.

Although, let's be honest. Looking at the state of the entertainment industry today and my mindset during that time, I probably would've been on my sixth stint of rehab and starring in my third reality show. 😂

But God had other plans.

What almost no one knew back then was that I also had this quiet fascination with science. I loved chemistry. I loved understanding how things worked. I admired scientists more than I ever admitted, but I never imagined that passion would become part of my career.

Today, I formulate textured hair care products, research ingredients, mix formulas, teach others how to care for textured hair, and speak to audiences about entrepreneurship, hair science, and purpose.

Looking back, I do not see a dream that failed.

I see a dream that evolved.

Sometimes we become so attached to one version of success that we do not recognize when we're being guided toward divine assignment, toward purpose.

Today, I am simply grateful I kept walking in the direction I was being led. Whether I am mixing and formulating, leading a workshop, or speaking to an audience, I still feel the same energy I felt on that stage in 1998.

The platform changed.

The purpose did not.

It has always been about positively impacting people.

My belief is simple: **all hair is good hair, especially when it’s healthy.**

I want every child to grow up knowing their hair is beautiful - not too much or too little of anything, not something to hide, and not something that needs to be changed to be accepted.

Yesterday was such a full circle moment for is. 🤍

We trained four groups of Girl Scout counselors at Camp Winona on how to care for and speak about curly, textured, wavy, and coarse hair with cultural sensitivity and inclusion.

As a third generation Girl Scout, Girl Scout camp is one of my most treasured core memories. So being able to walk into that space and help make sure every single camper has that same wonderful experience regardless of their hair type or complexion was everything.

Counselors from less diverse communities now have the language and tools to make every camper feel seen and celebrated. That matters more than most people realize.

Every child deserves a core memory they will carry forever. Yesterday we helped make that possible. 🌿

And the help doesn’t stop there! Counselors also get access to a private community with learning modules, checklists, and a chat for hair care emergencies.

Most of us were never taught, so we’re figuring it out in real time.

That’s exactly why we built a system to make overnight camp prep for textured hair simple, confident, and stress‑free.

What a wonderful time with the Girl Scouts of Nations Capital!! 😊 Mommy and I️ were so excited to attend the first step showcase since COVID ended.

The best memories from childhood stem from my time in Girl Scouts so it’s wonderful to be able to still participate!!
