Lots of people don't know this, but I was born on a 1500 acre working ranch that had been in my paternal bloodline for multiple generations. My mom moved us off the ranch when my siblings and I were young, but we spent elementary and adolescent years waking up at the crack of dawn to feed and water the animals and help with chores, riding horses to check fences, and doing our best to fish with crickets on the hook, on weekends and Summer months with our dad.
Some of my fondest childhood memories are on the ranch.
Today, most days, my idea of being "outdoorsy" is a spicy marg, chips & salsa, and a patio (I'm from Texas, IyKyK), but my true place of calm, clarity, and creativity has always been in nature.
Growing up, it was "adventure walks" to the back 40 by myself, singing songs and mentally writing poetry.
In Miami Beach it was sitting on the big boulders that lined the channel, watching the cruise ships and mega-yachts come in, while writing in my journal.
This weekend, I don't know what it will look like, or what (if anything) will come of it, but one thing's for sure
.. it'll be good for my soul.

Last week I went down to Houston- Harris County, Emergency Services District 11- and conducted a training with a team of EMS Leaders on personal brands of leadership. Half in-person, half virtual (bc their CEO, Jordan Anderson, understands and values his teams' life outside of work)
~ We talked about what success is
~ We talked about the value of personal fulfillment to their success in their professional roles
~ We talked lots about their personal brand and how being aware of it, and living in alignment, will help them become stronger and more effective leaders
Leadership is very personal; it begins and ends with you, as I told them.
*But*
when you're better for you, your also better for the world around you and *that* is what true leadership- titled or untitled- is all about
