A teaching can move you before you know whether you believe it. You might recognize something in its account of suffering, then find yourself questioning what it asks of the person who suffers. That is worth exploring carefully.

Occasionally. Occasionally it’s an entire appointment wearing a tiny hat.

Free resources are valuable. So is someone’s focused time applying what they know to your particular situation.

Asking is fine. Expecting unpaid work is a different request.

Before the conversation turns into a session, ask what it involves and what it costs.

You can study a belief without signing your name to it.

You can compare explanations, notice what attracts you and keep a question open. Curiosity does not have to become an immediate declaration of identity.

What's one question you want to take into October instead of another vague resolution?

The next month doesn't need a completely new version of you. It may need one clearer agreement, one useful appointment or one change to an arrangement that keeps getting in your way.

“This month went better” is a useful beginning. What made it better is the part you can build on.

Perhaps you planned less and followed through more. Perhaps someone else quietly picked up the extra work. Perhaps an unusually calm week made an arrangement look easier than it normally is.

Those are different explanations. They suggest different choices for October.

Before making another list, separate the improvement from the conditions that supported it. Keep what helped, acknowledge what it cost and talk about any help you expect to continue.

A review is useful when it changes the next decision.
